Connecting 2 rooms in Hammers Editor

I looked around but didn't see anything pertaining to this issue. Sorry if it should be redundant but any help would be appreciated. Most of the tutorials and samples teach you how to do a basic construction of one room. How do I connect 2 rooms and make a second floor in Half life 2's Hammer editor. I've searched the internet but have found nothing. Most of you guys are pretty smart and skilled (I'm just learning and would like to create some mods) with this stuff.
