I discovered this quite by accident. Early in Anticitizen One, where the metal sheet is covering a hole with hoppers in it, I was going to pick up the metal sheet with the grav gun and accidently hit the primary fire and it propelled me into the air. Then I decided to put my back to the fence and shoot straight down on the metal sheet and sure enough it shot me up into the air and over the fence.

If you haven't tried this, it's really cool!! Just make sure you are pointing down at something you can manipulate and use the primary fire.

i think i get what you're saying. that's an interesting little physics experiment, I'm gonna go try :D

I noticed something strange like that to, but It happened when I was goofing off and piling stuff up for no apparent reason.

My pile of trash was pretty big and it seemed to create it's own gravitational field (not really)...I would put more things on the pile and they would just stick and not slide or move, then when I climbed on top and tried to jump I was just shot up into the air....

Container Launching...Great Fun!

Y'all should try container launching at the shipping yard crane...much fun!

Get the super grav gun and set settings high enough to pick up and launch the large metal containers.

get in one...

try various impact points and fire away...see how far you can go!

also fun when container is attached and hanging from magnet...

I need to know an easy way to convert .dem files to .avi and I will post some if I can. (not using .tga's if possible)

Enjoy...

.dem files are not stored video data, rather its like a scripted sqeuence saved

you need to use playmovie or recordmovie or something, it runs through the demo and saves each frame as a bmp. Then you use a program to create an avi from it.

try googling for it, there'll be instructions somewhere

edit it first (might aswell use the cool editdemo feature Valve added to Source) then Record it to avi, pretty sure the command is in there since the rest is.

Thanks, I will give it a look. Has anyone else been playing with the containers like this?

I use the standard super gravity gun settings, I can slide the container towards me but can't pick it up. You can also duplicate a dropship (I tried it at the lighthouse) with it, with higher settings it should be possible to pick up the duplicate and shoot it away.

To make movies from .dem files:

(from another thread, credits to Jacen)

-) put that in ur autoexec.cfg
bind "F11" "host_framerate 30; startmovie <fill in name>"
bind "F12" "endmovie"
-) record demos while u play
-) run the demo
-) press f11 to start recording
-) press f12 to stop recording
-) download virtualdub
-) file -> open video -> image sequence
-) select the first of the .tga files (should be named mapnam_tmp_0000.tga)
-) audio -> wav audio -> temp.wav in the hl2 directory
-) file -> save avi -> select destination and name

Works very well. It makes a movie of a constant 30 fps no matter what your framerate is. Allows VERY complex scenes to run smoothly.

I've already made some movies fooling around with and breaking the crane....

Just don't know where to host the videos.

How do you change gravity gun settings? *is confused*

Yeah, I never heard of this too. It's likely a console command, huh?
