Timeline of Important Events in the HL Universe :-
Before HL:
1) Vortigaunts enslaved by controllers (using Nihilanth)
2) Combine invade the Vortigaunt homeworld
3) Vorts escape to Xen using Nihilanth's abilities
4) Black Mesa scientists piss off Nihilanth and his lot.
During HL:
5) Breen recklessly conducts a dangerous test
6) Shit hits the fan - resonance cascade!
7) Wild aliens from Xen sucked into Black Mesa
8) Soldiers sent to silence the facility and protect it's secrets
9) Nihilanth sends troops to permanently stop human incursions into Xen
10) Race-X decides to take advantage of the dimensional tear and invade earth
11) Scientists close the tear on earth's side using the satellite
12) Freeman sent to kill Nihilanth, succeeds
13) Shephard stops Race-X by killing the Gene worm
14) Black Ops are sent to nuke BMRF. Ultimately Gman finishes the job himself.
Intervening Years:
15) Nihilanth's death triggers portal storms. Earth gets f*cked.
16) Vortigaunts are freed, but most are stranded on earth
17) Combine notice earth during the resonance cascade, and are enticed by the human teleportal technology
18) Citadels appear on earth, 7 Hour War, earth surrenders.
During HL2:
19) Gordon is released. Black Mesa survivors rebuild a local teleporter
20) Mossman betrays them by building the same thing for the Combine
21) Mossman leads Breen to BME in exchange for Eli's safety
22) Gordon and Alyx destroy the Nova Prospekt teleporter while trying to free Eli
23) Mossman takes Eli to the Citadel for safe keeping.
A Week Later:
24) Resistance is gaining strength with Barney in charge
25) Breen realises that Eli is useless while he has Mossman
26) Breen tries to kill Eli, Mossman double-crosses him
27) Gordon destroys dark fusion reactor ans stops Breen
28) Gman puts Gordon back in stasis before the explosion.
Episode One:
29) Vortigaunts save Alyx, free Gordon from the Gman's control
30) Combine portal network has temporarily shut down
31) Resistance leaders head to White Forest to meet up with another team
32) Citadel destroys itself and sends a data packet to some Combine controlled universe

33) The rebellion spreads worldwide since all Citadels have lost power
34) Gordon meets the second research team at White Forest
35) Kleiner launches a satellite to close the superportal left behind by the City 17 explosion
36) Mossman gets in trouble while searching for the Borealis, Eli dies.
I have only included what I think are the most important events, the ones that shape the plot. Apart from minor details like the collapse of the suppression field, Did I miss any points? Or do any of you guys disagree on any of these? If you have another theory, post away!
