It would make sense. It got there on the 15th, they tested it for a few days, and declared it gold, and they're waiting for a business day to announce it.

If it goes gold.

Yes!!! Let's end this once and for all! Feels like we've been in labor for 1 year.

Let's just wait and see. The first RC could've been rejected or anything.

if the rc isnt accepted today, i think its clear that its been rejected. theres a possibility it will be accepted today, but not go gold today.

As soon as it's accepted it's gold. Whether they annouce gold is a different matter.

I think it's better to wait a few days before we start deciding that the RC has been rejected.

ahahaha yeah i agree

wtf? vu announced it gold already??

if thats the case, then, omg...like..hl2...is...like...so.....CLOSE

sleepless nights begin soon lol

but yes, it probably hasnt officially gone gold yet. where did we get this info from anyway. i find it hard to believe that it has gone gold, because we definitely wouldve heard something about it by now...or tonight....one can only hope.

i think the vivendi testers have passed out on the floor with permanent joker-like smiles on their faces after playing the hl2 rc because the game was so good. so they haven't been able to submit their bug reports to their superiors yet. which in turn delays the gold announcement.

If I can make just one person lose sleep, I've done my job.

Hey everyone! If you stay up straight until HL2 comes out, it'll only seem like one day!

anyway, back to reality poseyjmac................

Yes, that is indeed the most likely theory.

The VUG post says that Vivendi usually tests games for 72 hours. Depending on how many hours of the day Vivendi tests, they would either do 24 hours straight or a regular 8 hour day, we could see a gold announcement:

* in four days (if they test 24 hours a day through the weekend) on the 20th,
* on the 24th if they test 8 hours a day (including weekends)
* or on the 28th which is 72 hours per 8 hour day (not testing on the weekends).

I hope its the first option and that they don't find any bugs that would require a new RC.

It shall go gold on Wednesday! MARK MY WORDS, ARARARARAR

Well, Monday may be a bit wishful - but I'm gonna stick with that.

Hey poseyjmac, do you actually live in Redding? I live in Eureka, about 150 miles from there.

Edit: Hmm... Someone changed the title of the topic.

72 hours is three days, and the Release candiate was submitted on Wednesday. So 3 days of testing would mean Saturday or Sunday, not the 20th.

The Gamespot article of the final days of Half-Life development referred to "48 Hours of testing". The RC was submitted on the Thursday and approved on the Saturday, so it's safe to assume that it meant "48 hours" just as "Two days", instead of 48 hours spread over 6 days.

From what I've heard, Half Life was accepted on a Saturday, but not announced as Gold until Monday.

They better announce it Gold on Monday or I'll... I'll... sit here and wait for it even longer. I'm not a violent person :P.

Actually it could've been a Tuesday. But it still means that announcement is likely to come on a weekday.

That's the last time you threaten me like that, Pressure! I'm not taking this.. I'm going home! ;(

i hope it goes gold today (monday)
but that would be a little hard on them if they were testing 24 hours a day

i doubt it would be just one person testing 24 hrs a day.
im sure they have ppl working (lol working) 8 hour shifts or something.
hl2 is near

Well, providing they've been working hard over the weekend (which I'd say they would've been), there's a pretty good chance it'll get announced, providing the RC hasn't been rejected. Here's hoping.

I think 48 hours of testing means 2 days of testing, and not exactly 48 hours. They'll have a number of people testing out the game simultaneously, and they probably test some hours during the night too.

I'm taking into account the fact that we do not know when the RC was submitted on the 15th. It could have been on Vivendi's desk first thing in the morning on the 15th or it could have been late at night. So I gave my calculations an extra 24 hours, then some more time since I'm thinking they only make announcements on a business day.

It's good to know that Vivendi tests on weekends.

If you read the piotrr messages in Vivendi forums:

Everyone works 24/7 when nearing a release.. well, not specifically everyone, because you do need to sleep, but there is always someone working. Lucky developers, and testers, get paid more over weekends, but not most. They still work though, because "that's the way it's done" (bad planning, IMO).

(taken from http://community.vugames.com/[email protected]@.1dd82db4 )

So I think if RC1 is accepted today is the day, but to be realist a RC3-4 is more likely. It's a very complex FPS game, tested on +20 machines for 72 hours, we can expect two crashes to desktop and a few little hard to spot bugs :p I expect Gold next monday.

Im from umm.. vivendi..
Whats happening is we are playtesting HL2 over and over, and over.. fun game :) we can't take our hands off of it.. now as your moddo goes "Find that damn bug or your fired", so well we gotta find at least 1 bug or were fired! But there are no bugs!

lmao, like someone said, the VU testers, have all went in to a catatonic state as they reliased they got their mits on it!! , now al of them have commited suicide becuase of the pressure of not talking bout having played it....... so its not really being tested atm.... cos well over the weekend the test team dissapaeard!! ;( lol...

ofcourse only mesing, im looking for either a gold announcemnt on like wednesday, or if not, something like next monday.!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Too early in the morning over there if there was to be a gold announcement today :P

Oh cool im a zombie, not bad considering i've been here since October 2003 lmao

ok here we go again. every1's getting all hyped up about dates. try this: we actually know BUG ALL

and thats the truth guys.

it will not go gold today. I blame steam. Steam is the cause of the lawsuit problems between the developers and publisher, as it cuts into the profits of the latter. until that is resolved, I don't think there will be half life 2 for any of us. The game was probably finished and bug free months ago.

Erm, I don't think it was. Considering the the CS:S beta test took place and it wasn't totally bug free then.

ok fine, it wasn't done months ago, but that's not really my point. My point is that if you honestly believe the legal problems between Valve and Vivendi are not delaying the commercial release of the game, you are being very naive.
