I'm suffering from repeated crash to desktop problems. Hoping someone can help.
A few weeks ago i got a new XP3200 processor. Ever since, my computer has been prone to crashing back to the desktop, or simply hanging.
Numerous people suggested that it was because my RAM was now mismatched. I had 512MB DDR266 ram, whilst the 3200 really ought to use DDR400. Today i replaced my ram with the DDR400 and i'm still getting the same problems with absolutely any game and pretty much any software.
Game-wise it seems to happen at arbitrary points, not particularly complicated scenes, nor fierce battles.
Application-wise i thought i'd narrowed it down to running photoshop, winTV and another graphics program at the same time...but then yesturday i managed to do it just by doing something in a php IDE open on its own.
MSI KT6-Delta
XP3200
Audigy 2 ZS
X800Pro
512MB DDR400
Win2k
I'm reluctant to put words into your collective mouths, as that usually gets a slew of mindless kiddies agreeing with you without any thought, but...
- could it be overheating? My fan is certified up to XP3400 and during intensive gameplay my CPU is usually at about 70oC, whilst the case is somewhere around 50oC.
- could it be bad sectors on the HD?
Any ideas welcome
