Game crashes at a certain part of Our Benefactors with sound looping, get an error message. Tried verifying, reloading the chapter, it always crashes in the same place for no apparent reason.

Haven't had this anywhere else (except for a couple of times in a bit just before where it crashes now), and don't know what I can do about it :/

Any help is appreciated.

Seems like you've got a corrupted something.
Have you tried using different video settings?

Nope, only thing that's changed is that I've had episode 1 activated (already preloaded it), and I tried skipping to the next map but I crashed there too after a while in the core getting round. Might just try a fresh install lol >.<

Or you can start from earlier save and see what happens, maybe that is a "bad save" and something may have interrupted Ep1 while saving.

Good Luck.

Tried that too, tried starting a new game in the chapter but again no luck with it. And the only saves I have from earlier are in anticitizen one (was replaying the game again in time for episode 1 but didn't quite manage it).

Will probably reinstall it later and hope it works, if you jump to a map later on you unlock all the chapters before it right?

Just type sv_unlockedchapters 14 in the console.

Well I reinstalled but I still kept my saved games and unlocked chapters, and I still crash in the same place as before :/

A64 3200
Radeon x600
1.5gb ram
onboard sound

All drivers updated, although I did actually updated my gfx when I got episode 1 when I think about it, could that be it?

Running it at what's recommended, high for most things except AA which is none and anistropic which is trilinear. Using the 64-bit windows but not given me problems in the past.

This always happened to me too in one location, driving me crazy... Then I simply tried one thing - updated my (already more than up-to-date) Nvidia display drivers from 84.56 to 91.29 beta. The sound-related crash didn't disappear entirely, but it has only happened to me once after the update. So, worth trying for some people I guess.

Now I'm stuck elsewhere, because of another bug (I think) which makes it impossible for me to activate a button needed for turning the bridges and getting ahead in the game... Well, this reminds me of why people do buy consoles - especially since Civ 4 wouldn't work at all in my PC. ;)

Fortunately, at least Oblivion worked like a charm from the start. So there's hope. :)
