Create Mod Wizard Problem

I'm starting a mod to add a new custom weapon to Half-Life 2. The problem I'm running in to is with the mod creation wizard within the Source SDK.

If I choose Source Engine 2007 in the wizard, the mod will run but it will always run as Half-Life2: Episode 2. I really just want the mod to be for standard Half-Life 2. However, if I choose the 2006 engine, the mod will not run when I hit "play" in steam. In fact, nothing pops up, not even a dialogue box.

Has anyone else run into either of these problems?
