In the book 'Raising the Bar' there was planned a creature called the Cremator who would clean the streets of dead bodies after a skirmish, with a massive flamethrower. This would double as a weapon when the Cremator becomes an enemy, and obviously killed.

I thought this beast of an enemy could be delivered in episode 1. It would be a great opportunity because lots of dead combine are littering the streets within City17, and for that matter rebels aswell. Maybe the Cremator (s) have 'been released' by some location to do their job.

And knowing valve how this street cleaner will become an enemy will be very interesting.

Yeah that would be interesting, and to have a flamethrower would be cool.
How does the cremator look like, are there any artworks or sketches of it.

The cremator looked pretty cool, but it needed a black trench coat, rather than the green one. However its role would need to be re worked, because there is next to no point in them clearing the streets in episode 1 because it won't be long before the Citadel goes up and takes out City 17 - so there'd be no point.

We'll see, anyhow.

I thought it was more of a long rubber rainjacket, than a trenchcoat.

I also thought that the gun spewed out chemicals, and not a flamethrower...*looks up book*

aha, "large spray hose that dissolved organic material"

I assume the cremator would be some cool boss fight.
If they were in HL2 cleaning the streets, anyone would assume a boss battle with them in the episode aswell.
But as they were not in HL2, then certainly there role would have to be changed (as Samon said). Combine wouldn't be sending Cremators into clean up a city about to be discintergrated.
I think if they were sent in, it would be something different like not cleaning but supporting some other deadly role. Deadly because they want Gordon dead etc. What role they take though, would be a nice surprise for the episode.

cremators arent combat troops though - they're essentially the combine bin men

Gordon wasn't a combat troop when he entered Black Mesa - he was essentially Black Mesa's scientist.

And look what he did... D:

I doubt they'll be in Aftermath, but I'd love to see them in future episodes :)

yeah but gordon is well gordon :P
he has binmen for breakfast

edit - lol i read that back to myself :O
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Actually, I would imagine the Cremator's response to be automated. They seem like mindless grunts as are the Stalkers we'll encounter. Although, it would make sense for them to change their priorities. It would be a cool effect, anyway.

that brings up an interesting point
cremators are more than likely alien stalkers - the trenchcoat is merely a protective suit
they are not combat soldiers, just menial labourers, slaves like human stalkers

But according your theory, they'll fight us - like the stalkers - when the citadel is falling?

Whether there slaves/binmen or whatever, they can fight - fact - from 'Raising the Bar'

Why they won't be in Aftermath:
When you ask Eli about the Cremator's head in his lab, he gives the impression that he has no idea what it is. "Alyx brings home the strangest things."
Surely if they were out there and actively cleaning up City 17 he would have at least some idea of what they were.

there's no doubt that they can fight - the fact is they are not fighters
Gordon should by all accounts be able to kill them by raising an eyebrow considering the other threats he's faced :p

He he,you can't argue with that:laugh:

The cremator WAS in Half-Life 2.

I'm talking about his head, in Eli's lab.
