CS:CZ Bots and HL2 AI?

Ok so I bought CS:CZ, enjoyed it for a while, then realized the bots acted like n00bs with wallhack and aimbot... I mean seriously. I'm pretty good at CS. I'm usually in the top 3 players on pubs. But these bots headshot me the second I walk around a corner.

The bots themselves work something like this, the lower difficulties will aim at your head, and do NOTHING for like 3 seconds. Then something clicks and they get a headshot. This is crap. The higher difficulties just headshot you the second they see you, which is usually from across the map way before you ever saw them. But this rant isn't about CS:CZ... This is about HL2.

Will the FIRING routines in HL2 be anything like CS:CZ? If I'm playing on hard, I see a combine, he sees me. Will he instantly shoot for my head? I know the movement of the AI in HL2 will be fantastic. Heck the movement in CS:CZ was really good, and they acted like real players. But if they shoot me the second they see me without ever missing then I will be very dissapointed.

The damage is different in each game, a headshot in Halflife2 is not fatal unless you are low on health.

Hmm Ive played through CZ on hard and they dont headshot everytime at all. Ofcourse they do get some very lucky ones here and there, but I have noticed the same in real life ! The CZ bots are the best bots I have ever encountered, imho!

I don't even think that there are player headshots in HL2... I'm pretty sure there weren't in HL...

MOHAA suffered from this as well.

The second a German would see you a shot would be fired. Apparently they had no need to raise the gun and aim, it was just snap fire!

Well lets just say I stopped playing after I shot a guy in the back and had him turn around and headshot me in like 200ms = P

There were, at least with some monsters there were. Shooting zombies in the head makes them die quicker, same with the grunts.

Really I'm not talking about the headshots per-se. I'm talking about in general. If I am in the middle of a big field and get shot by a combine, good! I shouldn't have been right out in the middle of nowhere like that. But if I'm walking through a house, and go around a corner only to get shot at the second I go around the corner then that's not good.

I just hope the AI in HL2 has reaction time. If you were guarding a house and a guy walks around the corner your first instinct wouldn't be to aim and fire unless you were already under heavy fire. It would take a couple seconds to realize this guy wants to kill me, then you would lift your gun and fire. I guess I just hope you can surprise the enemies and they will actually act surprised.

can someone find out if a hs is fatal or does more damage? it would be much better if the bodys represented true damage. say a shot in the leg would bring them to the ground but not kill them, or shooting there gun or there hand and making them drop there weapon, or even just an arm shot making there aiming poor?? i cud go on but you guys get the picture. does anyone know anything about the subject?

What was more annoying is that they'd do it in heavy fog through dense trees when you couldn't even see them!

I said Player headshots. Y'know, like Gordon being shot in the head?

This often gets annoying in a lot of games. I played through Farcry few days ago, and when you get sniped by someone with a rocket launcher kilometers away that I couldn't even see with my graphics settings without zooming with binoculars, it kinda ruins the fun.

I hope HL2 is not like this, but from the last year's E3 videos (mostly trapdown), I am not worried. I foresee intense firefights with the trigger happy combines :)

I didn't actually understand how Valve and Turtle Rock were boasting about the "amazing AI bots" in CS: CZ. I mean, it's the bigest part of work they did in CS: CZ, and sure, they work, but Half-Life 2's AI is 100,000x more promising.

I just didn't get it.

online capable AI != single player AI

From the videos released so far, it looks like the game will be craploads more fun.

Remember the helicopters in HL1, and how you'd pretty much die instantly if you didn't conceal yourself completely when they were over head? That was irksome. Same with the grunts, and pretty much everything else. The only ways to avoid getting shot were to catch them by surprise, be completely behind something, or to be in a different room.

Luckily, in the videos, the characters appear to have far more realistic firing patterns. Compare the accuracy of the original helicopter with the new gunship. This one actually strafes, misses, provides suppression fire. Basically, they've replaced extreme accuracy with intelligence.

Same with the combine. Although their AI seemed to be toned down, they would still attempt to flush Gord out They aren't afraid to miss if it means they might get a few stray hits in.
This system is what will be the best part of HL2, besides the physics, if you ask me.
