This is a pure guess, but if VALVe wants to maximize the effect this has on Vivendi, they'll probably release it 10/4 or 10/5 so that it is either on or near the day Tribes: Vengence is released.

Last I checked October was the 10th month of the year. (Hence "10/4 or 10/5" which is next Monday and Tuesday)

Accaully, the 10/4 and 10/5 is the 10:th of April and the 10:th of May.

Not in the US. We have a tendancy to do backwards things like drive on the right side of the road and put dates as <month>/<day>.

cs:s? Well, CS:S comes with Halflife2. So i guess the same release date as retail halflife2.

Dont go OTT if you don't know what you're talking about.

You need to buy HL2 through steam SOMETIME NEXT WEEK at which point you will be able to download the rest of CS:S and play INSTANTLY. You will then be able to activate HL2 when it's released.

Apparently not. I believe the "play CS:s early!" thing is intended to encourage you to buy the full retail game through steam. Besides, how could valve feasibly let you play their entire multiplayer game now, without paying for it until later? The honor system?

This is a very good way to for Valve to steal even more sales away from Vivendi since a lot of people who would have waited to buy through retail will now purchase hl2/CS:S through steam. Also I wonder what would happen to the lawsuit since VU wants valve not to sell through steam but they're gonna be starting soon. This might just delay hl2 even longer, but of course that is just speculation. Or on a side note, this will force vivendi to NOT delay it so that everyone won't just buy the game through steam instead since a lot of people will want to play CS:S ASAP.
