From the super awesome indie developer dudes who brought you Uplink, Darwinia is a sci-fi retro arcade-puzzle action-RTS set in a world stitched together from fragments of old computer games by a scientist with too much time on his hands. The Darwinians are under attack from evil red virii and in typical videogame fashion, only you can save them. Shoot lasers at glowing red centipedes! Command armies of little green crucifix-men! Call in airstrikes from squadrons of Space Invaders! All this and more is comking to the Steam Platform for easy (and cheap) download.

Its a pretty cool game, like an RTS version of Tron. Not sure if I should buy it yet, though.

Has anyone got the rocket upgrade in the Yard section yet? Every time I try to use it crashes saying that it can't find the explosion sound file.

I've verified the cache files with steam but it hasen't found any problems.

::UPDATE::

Ok, it looks like the sound files were left out of the Steam download, here's a thread from the introversion forums with a couple of people missing the sound file too.

So, i'm in the contaminated area where you have to save 150 darwinians. The problems is, I don't have 150 darwinians to save... Don't tell me I have to restart the whole area >.<

If there are no more virri to kill and souls to incubate then yeah, you're gonna have to restart.

You can always kill off your officers.

Yeah, that mission's qutie annoying. I did it with literally exactly 150 Darwinians.

I only have the demo, but is there any way to pause the game? I see no reason why the developers would remove that.

Online multiplayer Darwinia is hinted at in this interview.

TSR: So we are going to be seeing multi-player games from Introversion?

IV: Yes. We have design docs for a multiplayer version of Darwinia - we’re currently scheduling the work / release. We also have a new multiplayer game coming out in Spring that we’ll be talking more about in the new year.

ooooh...

the functionality is in the game (when an IM pops up it pauses the game)... Not sure how to induce it myself though :-\

Ask at the official forums though, because they are the ones that know the game a lot :D
