As far as I have read in these forums, and especially in an e-mail or two from gabe n., Source has within it the amazingly awsome feature of destructable environments... why he said it's disabled by default is beyond me as it's awsome...

Well, is it known what other features the source engine has built within it that are disabled?

Mainly, is it know weather or not you can activate features through console? (Specifically D.E.)

It would be nice. ^_^

destructible envrionments aren't in the game unless you mod them in or if you create levels with them.

Because it ruins performance

I doubt the destructable enviroment works well, unless it's on par with Silent Storm. But it really does ruin performance, probably uses the CPU.

If they pull off a Red-Faction evnironment, I will give them my soul.

Red Faction's destructible enviroment was pathetic and too limited to be of any use. Silent Storm no doubt has the best one to date.

mmm, red faction, man, i remember that. it was just fun to shoot a hole through a wall and dig a tunnel up to the cieling and all that. ^_^

Red factions rocked actually.

In the Vampire Masq... video there is the fight with the stone gargoyle, if you go on the sidewalk above him then he beats down the sidewalk and eventually it all collapses realistically.

Im thinking you could just make certain rooms or sidewalks destructable.

Red Faction's Geo-mod was vastly underused, and wasn't much more than a gimmick really.

Let's not forget Terrain Deforming.
After scrutinizing over physics and facial articulation. Seem's TD has been pushed aside. Any speculations on how and or where this will come into the game? I mean aside from the tech demo. It hasn't been shown anywhere. Or could valve just been tooting their horn when showing it off? And not have it in the game at all. I hope not.

Hasnt it been said that destructable environments are comming in TF2 only.

GeoMod was pretty cool in RF, although I agree should have been more usefull in terms of the completion of goals.

I agree but they didn't know if trhey were using it or not. I mean plenty of times like I didn't know where to go, and I spent 5 minutes going around trying to figure it out, and then I remembered it has GeoMod and so I shoot the wall and escape. But then at other parts of the game I get stuck and think "Aha! Another GeoMod part!" and I start shooting at the walls and nothing happens!

i read in PC gamer that Gabe said that all buildings are destrucable. hmmm.

i dont care either way because

1) it can be modded by FANTASTIC modders out there
2) i cant wait for hl2!!!!

i think he said he didnt include it because in red faction people would spend more time destroying things then playing the game, and it would be posssible to "break the game" or something like that....

lol, i'd spend more time breaking through walls... that's for sure.

/impulse101 so i can shoot through walls, not enemy, yeah!

I never saw valve say this but it does sound like something they would say. They tend to favor fun factor over realism. However I'm sure there will be some creative mods out there that take advantage of it.
