Brief description:
Disorder is a single player Half-life 2 modification, in which the only person standing between a group of mutant raiders and the peaceful rural community you've known since childhood, is you. Game play will focus on intense gunfights and vehicle sequences, which will be enhanced by the story. Valve's Source technology will allow us to really bring the characters to life, and motivate the player throughout the game.
Story:
In the year 2014, several dozen explosions are reported in populated cities across the United States. Soon after, people start dying from a virus that causes cancerous growths. Millions are infected. But for unknown reasons, thousands live through the infection, scarred for life with disturbing physical abnormalities.
The government quickly moves in to quarantine the infected cities while the nature of the virus is studied. Rioting escalates as families are torn apart. Many mutated survivors turn to violence, grouping together and demanding answers that no one has. In some cities they are able to break through the quarantines before the government has a chance to act.
Your family was lucky enough to be spared from the initial outbreak, but when a gang of roaming mutants comes to raid your town, your life will never be the same.
Talent needed:
Programmer:
This mod shouldn't be too tough for the programmer. The programmer will mainly have to deal with coding in a proper third person view for the vehicles, and tweaking some AI. So I'm looking for a programmer who can work with the HL2 engine, but he/she doesn't need to be an expert.
Weapon Modeler:
This will be a piece of cake for the weapon modeler. The weapon list will be small enough for one weapon modeler to handle all of it, if need be. So if you're looking for a short summer project, this might be a good idea for you.
Character Modelers:
The character modelers have their work cut out for them; character models need to be detailed enough to handle a wide range of facial expressions. Joining this mod might be a nice opportunity to show off what you can do, if you're up to the challenge.
All character models will be humanoid, so you don't have to worry about modeling ape-mutants or anything like that. The mutants will generally look like this:
Texture artists:
Maps, weapons, and character models all need to be textured. You should know how to convert your textures into the proper formats for Half-Life 2, and at least the basics of how shaders work.
Level designers:
Map artists should be comfortable with Hammer, and should know what it takes to create detailed levels. The specifics of each level will be planned out with input from everyone on the team, but the level designers will need to make sure everything flows smoothly.
Team structure:
Right now I'm just starting to assemble a team. My contributions will be project manager, concept artist, modeling, weapon animations, and character animations. Also I worked on a website which hopefully is good enough for now while the team is assembled.
Website:
DISORDER
The proper url is www.disorder-hl2. tk (for some reason the tk gets bleeped out)
Contacts:
Email: [email protected]
Additional Info:
From my modding experiences, I've found that the biggest reason they fail is lack of communication. I'm going to try to avoid that by having weekly meetings over IRC once a team is assembled. Also I'll set up some forums for discussion as well so that everyone can add their suggestions.
I realize that creating any type of game is a lot of work, and that it is very time consuming. We all have real lives to focus on, so I tried to develop this idea with that in mind. The idea is simple enough that it can be completed even if we have only one person per area.
Finally I'd like show off a prototype car I created while coming up with the idea for this mod. (Basically I wanted to see how easy modding vehicles is in Source) I modeled/skinned this quickly, but you can hardly tell when you're running over people.

Please email me if you're interested in helping out, also remember to include some examples of your work if you're an artist.
