So the first one was great and the second one doesnt even need mention, but do you think that if there were a few real beefy cut scenes throughout, like freeman beating the shit out of some combine with his crowbar or humping alex.....whatever? I mean itll be great without it but doesnt it just make you wonder?? Cutscenes make the game i reckon!

Baaaddddd idea...

What makes HL's story-telling so great is that your always looking though Gorgon's eyes. It makes you feel more like you are Gordon. No other games do this. It's part of the games unique feel.

i hate cutscenes unless i get to choose something that happens in them. I hate the main character saying/ doing shit in a cutscene because why the hell did i just warp outside of them and get a cinematic veiw? it doesnt make sense. but if a cutscene is just like a building blowing up or something i wouldnt mind.

No it would ruin it for me. The point of the game is to make your surrounding environment "alive", to make you feel as if you are really there. So that you get an eery tingly feeling everytime you see that absurdly tall building in the far distance. So that you feel like you have controll, and that you are in fact, you lol. That you play the cutscenes, the cutscenes revolve around you. I consider there to be lots of cutscenes, but you get it from a first person perspective instead of fancy camera angles that just look cool, it looks a lot crazier when you are still inside the suit.

Like a nascar crash for example, you can watch it from the outside and say wow, but when you get the drivers view of the crash, then you really "feel" it instead of just see it, you feel like your going through the crash not your character (like Gordon) it feels a lot more up close and personal, its more emotional, more creepy, more real, more chaotic.

Its like seeing the whole strider vs. good guys battle with all the rockets and chaos and shooting from a birds eye blimp view, sure it looks crazy and beautiful (in a sick way) but when you get down to the ground, a lot closer to the action, you literally become engulfed in it. The movie Black Hawk Down did this perfectly, by showing what its like for the soldiers on the ground (yes it had a few of those wierd shots, but they didnt add anything, they were just there).

So to answer you, I would say no cutscenes, because it ruins the games feel.

The characters talk to YOU not your character, theres a big difference, because when you see it in a third person perspective, its more like someone else than you.

True, i guess it would be a bit weird from the half life perspective.

It would completely ruin Valve's storytelling style.

Ever since Half-Life 1 I have regarded cutscenes as somewhat cliché and annoying. They only serve to take me out of the game.
