Knowing Valves track record they need to announce at least 3 release dates before it will actually come out.

Yeah you are quite right, but they are already at about release date 9 or so.

And the definition of a couple of weeks is now 8 months or so, is that really what a couple means in the USA? Here a couple is erm two.

Incorrect. LC is coming out to showcase the HDR technology that will be featured in future Valve games such as DOD: Source and HL2: Aftermath. Shortly after (or at the same time as) LC's release, DOD: Source will be released, followed by HL2: Aftermath.

So I'll guess that Lost Coast will come out in the next week, while DOD:Source will come out on the 30th.

I'd be surprised if LC comes out before the end of October. I bet the new ATI card is holding back it's release. It doesn't bother me, it means that Valve would either sit on what they've done already or keep refining it.

i would be more mad if they gave a exact date and then backed out of it, like come Nov 15, 2004 at midnight i restarted steam and nothing happaned, then ide be pissed. but also im in no rush for lost coast cuz i can play hl2 forever! I wouldnt be suprised if they just waited till Nov 15th, 2005 to release something, whether it be LC or w/e but that would be pretty cool.
