Half-life 2 requires a one-time internet validation when you install it. At that point, you'll be automatically updated to the latest version. After that, you can play in offline mode.

Yeah right.

One-time validation, many times (every two weeks seems to be the maximum) forced updates- and I'm not talking about the automatic game updates that you can turn off. Steam will force you to at least check for an update every two weeks or so, before you can even think about playing. Don't get me started.

Steam= good idea, badly done.
