This week's Dota 2 update stands as an odd departure from other recent updates, as very few new features have been introduced or revealed. While the update includes the usual lengthy set of gameplay bug fixes and slight tweaks to community and UI systems, the main talking point of this patch is the introduction of a brand new model overhaul for Sniper. The new model, shown below, has dramatically improved the visual quality of the hero, as the previous model was several years old and appeared to be extremely low quality when compared to models used for newer heroes such as Skywrath Mage and Bristleback. As promised by Valve last week, the in-game guild system is now active, which allows players to create, join and personalise in-game groups that can be used to make organising matches with parties of friends and peers that little bit easier.

Completing the tutorial system once again appears to be high on Valve's priority list, as the update includes a huge number of new models, animations and particle effects for the upcoming second quest map. A number of unreleased UI elements and preview images have also been found in the game files, which, after being made active in the main client in a future update, will allow new players to track their tutorial completion progress in order to get a better understanding of how ready they are to begin competing in real PvP matches. Files for a new, currently unreleased, "Fantasy Dota 2 System" for the Interactive Compendium were also discovered, which will allow players to support individual teams and players by competing for points earned through real International 3 matches. The upcoming Compendium "Player Cards" collection game also received some minor updates which revealed how the new system will function. At the end of public matches, Compendium owners will find cards themed after players competing in The International 3 which, similarly to the recently released "Steam Trading Cards", can either be traded away to other players or stamped into their Compendium in order to receive exclusive new items and rewards.

Players will soon be able to collect and trade in-game cards themed after professional Dota 2 players.

The Interactive Compendium made community headlines earlier today when the 5th milestone was passed, bringing the total prize pool up to an enormous $2.4m. This new milestone will allow Compendium owners to vote on the participants of an 8 player 1v1 championship, which will take place at the International 3 in August. The Dota 2 Store has also received a fresh coat of paint, which now offers daily deals and a brand new layout. We'll be sure to keep you posted regarding any upcoming Dota 2 news as the game's launch approaches in the lead up to the International 3.
