Is there a way that I can use my DVD drive to watch region 1 DVDs (for example) although my drive is set to region 2?
I've got Cyberlink Power DVD and a little while ago it let me play DVDs from different regions, but it seems to have given up on that now...
Any help would be fantastic, cheers!

You can change the region but generally you are only allowed to change it around 5 times. I forget where you can change it but I thought it was just in the options menu of the DVD software (power DVD).

Not sure if it's that simple though.

What are regions?

I've never heard of them before.

Well, I think I've used up my number of region changes. You can get multi-region DVD players, why not software?

Flash your firmware, if you're man enough.
Man enough? Is it unstable or dangerous or something?

Yeah... but is there a reason for that? A technical reason? Otherwise I don't see the sense in that.

It's all homemade stuff, so there's always going to be a chance that you end up destroying your drive. I've done it to mine, however, and it worked perfectly. I suppose the more common your model is, the better chances you have, but there's always a risk.

I use Dvd43 with Patin-couffin, works like a dream, no risk, makes the drive region free. So far I have only watched a few different region dvd:s, but they worked perfect.

Why did they invent regions on dvd's? there's just no need. it makes me sad.

Yeah I think I can't play any US-DVDs on my DVD player here... ;(
