Easter Egg? (possible spoiler? :\)

search is your friend no seriously old theyre all over the game i seen atleast 4 of those.

That's actually a pretty cool find. I think it represents evolution? Monkey to human to combine?

Does that mean the masks are actually part of their heads?
I doubt it, because Barney was just wearing a mask of the Combine. I think it's just an in game joke.

Bah max you really make me wanna just read the spoiler -_- i don't have any selfcontrole :\ i guess im gonna finish soon no? im on the end of that bridge...

It's not a bad spoiler, just something you encountered early in the game, in the train station. You can go ahead and read it, since you are already way past it.

Oh... you'r right... but i guess it's possible that you can make masks but the real combines have them attached to thier face :X.

Ok, this one is a real spoiler, and don't read it until you beat a few levels after coast.
In Nova Prospekt, Dr. Breen talks over the loud speaker about how he told the Combine Advisors that the Combine Soldiers were the best that the human race has to offer and he didn't want them to dissapoint the leaders or else they might wipe out humanity. This means that the metropolice and stuff you fight (excpet for a few combine enemies) are actually human, but the combine leaders aren't.

Remember, that is a big spoiler, don't read it until after you finish two levels after the coast one.

Personally I think its an extension of evolution.

Ape - Man - Combine

Maybe its saying that they are the next evolutionary step for mankind.

At the trainstation there is some people in a line for food or something, and if you go to one of them (the black woman) she tells you that she would join city-police (cp) just to get a decent meal, wich confirms that the combine police are human, or atleast most of them.

And ofcourse there could be a simple exlpenation for their mask: Valve just didn't feel like making 50+ different combine faces...

hmm

I look at it this way, all of that area is considered land that was taken over by the combines from the humans. Its like a cigarette ad you would see on a billboard, showing how humans will end. Sorta like a spray paint thing a human made to warn others that combines will take over the world or something... you know..

good find demon. I never talked to her or even saw her

Marilyn Manson sings :

"This is e-vo-lution, the monkey, the man, then the [combine]"

Sometimes things like masks are actually used for ratings purposes, e.g. any Censors playing through the game are probably less horrified with killing masked drones than killing emotive humans.

I think masks make you more uncertain about whether what your fighting is even human or not. It adds an aura of mysteriousness (if thats even a real word).

Also it makes them look amazingly cool.

I'll not say here the exact details - but very late on in the game, there's a section where you'll have a chance to look around abit (so to speak..), if you keep your eyes open you'll find out the true nature of the combine troops. There are also posters in the city which hint at what they are.

Big spoiler

Well, as far as I know reading various bits, all the combine soldiers aren't actually from the combine, but humans who volunteered to be part of the "civil watch" or whatever it's called, or the "Overwatch". These soldiers are all modified humans using combine tech, as you can see in the citadel. I don't think you actually do face any real combine in HL2 (with the exception of the strider and gunship :S)

The Strider and Gunship are both mostly mechanical from what I've seen... However you do see 1 "Combine" talking to Dr. Breen when you're brought into his office if I remember correctly... And those giant headcrab things when you take the 2nd ride on that thingy in the citadel... Those could be "real" combine...

Big spoiler.. Dont read it if you dont want to be spoiled

Actrually, somewhere in the raising the bar book or strat guide or some book, those headcrab things are motar and something else synths. the mortar one fires organic matter at you, or something to that.

Don't read this spoiler if you dont want to be spoiled!

PM me details?

To me, it looks (Going left to right) looks like Combine > Man > Monkey...I think its saying that the combine rule over man. Man rules over Monkey.

I noticed that in the beginning of the game, Barney has a different voice with his mask on than the other combine around him. The rest all seem to sound the same. Its probably just because barney is a main character, but maybe the rest are alien-human like.

Maybe something like forced evolution.
