now i love engineers, but the one thing i hate about them is that when you stop being an engi all your buildings instantly go.

Now when i have worked so hard to get all 4 buildings up and then i need to change to a scout or something because the enemy has our suitcase and i need to help retrieve it i instantly lose all the buildings.

Surely it would be better if you lost all your buildings that when u became engi again they went back up or even some stay there like the portals or dispenser maybe not the turret

what you think

edit sorry....my point is if the team im playing with needs me to be an engineer and build a nice defence or offence and no one else on the team is an engineer then it means that i have to stay engineer just to keep the defence or offence up when i may want to change class

Then everybody would be an engie, build a bunch of turrets and then go off to be heavy or something. It would leave for a very unfair.

I was playing earlier and a few engineers were totally dominating the 2fort map with their placement of their sentries...
There appears to be a bug where if you are using the soldier and you appear to have a clear line of sight at a sentry and/or engineer..You can fire off as many rockets directly at them as you want but they don't hit them...You edge out any further and the sentry takes you out...
They were placed in the corner, just as you would be coming out of you base to cross the bridge...
The engineer can also build a sentry under the water in the 2fort level below the bridge...they can basically make it almost impossible for you to advance past the bridge and in some cases, (either above or below it) or get out of your fort at all...Especially when they have these notoriously well placed sentrys and a couple of snipers along their walk way...
The sentrys can seem very over powered also. They pretty much take everyone out with a couple of hits and they seem to lock on and hit you without fail within a fraction of a second....
Only way to take them out is with clever use of a soldier or demoman on their own or with the support of a medic

I would agree that out of context, sentries are hilariously overpowered, but as an Engineer, you don't really have that much power. Even so, with some well timed nades/rockets, you can take them out easy enough.

well, with 1-2 good scout(s) my sentries are also less overpowered :P
spies are no match for an engineer, if you stay near your sg
soldiers are a problem... sometimes ;)

best method so far is medic + hwguy in ubercharge mode, but you can annoy them (so they come out or go away) by just showing up for 1-2 shots of your shotgun. or provoke for an earlier ubercharge.

when they are in ubercharge you can also count on gun-spinning-around (right-mouse-button) of the hwguy so he walks slower, just show & hide tactic ;)

edit:
and yes, except for 2fort, an engineer is no match for demoman! if the demo knows what he's doing.

Playing as spy it is pretty easy to wreak havoc on engineers. You go invisible sneak into base, plant the charge on the sentry. If the engineer goes to remove the charge, then you can backstab him. If he chases you, go invisible and bug out while his sentry dies. If there are two sentries, you have to quickly sabotage both and then stab the engineers. You can also destroy the dispensors and teleporters as you run around ruining their fun.

ok if anyone noticed i didnt say that sentries should stay as i can see how unfair that is but how about the teleporters staying especially if your the offensive team on well or something cus thats a huge map and takes so long to get anywhere

also dan when you stab the engi in the back dont u get shot by sentries and die cus that happens to me alot as a spy

SGs are crazy. If you accidently go behind their target on a server with FF on, forget it, youre already dead.

Well placed sentry guns will pretty much take anyone out as soon as they peek their head out a door...The scout might make it a few more feet but then gets totally wasted...
I think that Valve should tweak them slightly so that their aim and targeting isn't quite so perfect 100% of the time and it takes a little longer for them to target...I don't think that the engineer should be practically 'invincible' to every class other than the spy, demoman and the soldier or require an uber charge to overcome...
I think that a scout should be able to dodge a sentry if he is double jumping all over the place and running like a bat out of hell...But this isn't the case, he gets taken out in a less than a second...
Basically, the ai in the sentry guns is far too good and has room to be toned down, if even a little bit.

Agreed!

agreed in the vids they did show a scout running past a sentry without getting harmed i think they should get harmed but not killed because they are uber fast and the sentry really shudnt be wasting them

No I think only being able to be taken out by a smart demo/rocket/spy/uber charge is what makes them defence weapons. Think of how easy it would be to get the case on 2fort if turrets were toned down.

The Engineer class is designed to be the one to hang back and make the base impenetrable. I'd rather the game be too hard than too easy.

Turrets would still be deadly and serve the purpose they're intended for, it'd just be nice if they didn't kill you instantly if you run around a corner and hapen to look left instead of right.

i agree that the instant lock on is a bit annoying, but it's not so bad. Keeps me on my toes. But I don't think it should be toned down much...would make being an engie pointless.
