ok i have steam shooting out of a pipe right....and i guess half life 2 is built on the theory "if you cant see it it shouldnt be rendered". so it goes like this. i look at the steam....hmm looks ok. i took away. dont see steam cause im not looking at it. look back at it, and for about a split second steam looks like its only beginning to come out and then it just flows normally. how do i make it so that the steam is always coming out of the pipe and doesnt disappear when im not looking at it?
 
try mucking around with the flags in the properties
 
I'm pretty sure that's just the way env_steam and other particle-based entities work. there's not much you can do.
 
i didnt mess around with the settings....except the translucency. only flag it has is "emissive". means nothing to me. it starts off and turns on with a switch. but anywho, i didnt think there was anything i could do about this. just asking before i decide to say "eh good enough".
 
it does that to lessen the load on the map, why should it render steam particles if nobody is looking at them.
