error in game

when i try to load my map it starts and quits quickly after it begins. then i push the console and it says: "map coordinate extents are too large. check for errors!"

how do i fix this?

it kind out sounds like you made your map outside of the limits of the grid in hammer. Also check for any leaks by going to
Map -> Load PointFile
and follow the red line to find your holes.

oooh I got this error yesterday

ok what happened was somehow Hammer didn't have any brush type selected (arch, block etc.) and I didn't notice until after I'd tried making some brushes, only nothing appeared, so when I noticed I just selected the regular kind and carried on. Then noticed in the compile log it was saying a couple of brushes had no visible surfaces, and trying to run the map would get the error you got. Seems even though nothing was actually created, Hammer still thought those brushes existed, and since they were too big (you can't go right up to the edge of the hammer grid btw) it was causing that problem. Finding the brush numbers in the log and deleting them fixed it.

well, somehow i fixed it this is what i did:

i had to go eat, i closed hammer. when i was done i resumed my map and then it had an error and said something bout a bad brush and it was going to delete it. so i said ok and looked for where the brush was. found it put a new brush where the old one was and then i was set oh well problem solved...
