Error message at HL2 Startup

Ok this has never happened before and one day when I tried to play HL2 it went into the game and then out again. It came up with this message:

Failed to set video mode - resetting to defaults.
Game will now start with the new video settings.

But then it went into the game and comes out again displaying the same message over and over again if you click OK. And if you click cancel it just exits!

I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with the latest drivers.

Can someone help me? :bonce:

I thing that reason is videocard drivers. 1. they are old update them 2. current (not old, but new) they are not supported well can be fixed by reseting to the old one or reinstall the drivers :farmer: otherwise no idea hope someone can help

I got the solution, because i had same problem after the newest drivers installation.
You need to delete some line(s) in Regedit.
Start Regedit.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video.
There should be some dir's with long text like {524D5680-7E7A-4481-A753-20848B60B78A}.Check all of them.Look for a Reg Binary containing something like HL2.exe in it and delete it.My was under dir 0000.If you got 2 binary's delete them both.
You are close when you see other game titles like diabloII,MOH,Splintercell, ect,ect.
