http://www.eternal-silence.net/Coding Update posted by MadMechwarrior on Oct 4 2005, 07:09 PM comments: 1
Wow, already a month since our last update. I'm going to bring you all a quick update on coding progress in the mod. Right now we are trying to cope with our source control server crapping out, but have no fear, we have not lost anything. Better yet, we are still making breakthroughs. So while I don't have any media today, atleast you all know we are not dead.
The news I bring is this: The #1 question we get when people first see this mod is "Is it possible?" and after some (extensive) tampering with the rendering code, I can officially say we now have a fully function space to interior transition. For some this might not mean much, but for us coders, it means that ES will have a 100% seamless transition between a 1km long capital ship interior and 16,384 cubic kilometers of deep space. You will even be able to sit in your interceptor outside the hangar door and stare at all the pretty people inside fighting.
The technical aspects of space flight have been sealed. We now have a brand new scripting file format for space vehicles. With this new system, we can make a model and a script file and have a fully working vehicle, no code required. It also makes player-made loadouts possible and will speed up the content creation process significantly.
The team has been in slow motion lately, what with classes starting and homework on all fronts, but we are still inching towards are goal, and now more than ever it seems possible, and probable, that we will make it. The major technical hurdles have been fixed, and it should be smooth sailing until the finish line.
On a side note, I have also worked out a new flamethrower effect since the last update, which is, if you ask me, 100x better than the old one (it looks like RTCW). If you are all nice, I may just cough up a pic in the forums.
I'll try to keep the updates more frequent, even if we don't have media.
Have a nice week,
MMW
Much better than a media update, IMO.
Keep up the awesome work, ES Team.
I can see ES2 easily being one of the best Source MODs.
