...will be given to the person that can assist me with a slight 3D Studio animation issue.

In the example below, object 1 needs to be able to move forwards and backwards and still remain attached to object 2 as it rotates.

I've tried every constraint, and every method I can think of, but I just can't get it to work. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

im not exactly sure about what you want to do but it seems like you can just do a link constraint from 1 to 2

You know, the one constraint I hadn't tried...

Thanks enormously - I owe you one.

don´t know what you want to do with it but i would give obj. 1 , obj. 2 as parent

Indeed you are. I'll make sure you get a mention in...whatever I'm working on.

Im not sure what ur asking, but do you mean kinda like the wheels of a car, they rotate and move forward and the car follows it without the car rotating itself?

Im in Computer Animation class and we learned how to do that, it was a few weeks ago so i might miss something:

First, select the rotating thingy, and go to the Hichary (spell?) tab, and click on "effect pivot only" then click on "center to object", check if the gizmo is in the center, if not, move it yourself. When finished, click "effect pivot only" again. Now, activate the Autokey (so the timeline becomes red) and rotate the thingy the way you want it to, rotate it several laps without releasing the mouse. Now, with the Autokey still activated, move the thingy forward, together with the car or whatever it is (basicly grab everything and move it forward). If you did everything right, the thingy will rotate and move forward together with the rest of the objects.

I havent done it in several weeks since my Car project in school, so i might have missed something. Hopes it works!

But it seems like u fixed it already, so nvm

It's a small part of something larger. That was the minimum I could get away with showing.
