Hey guys! New here. I just downloaded the SDK...but not for making HL2 levels! I'm messing around with some city scape stuff in 3d packages (Truespace, Bryce, stuff like that) and some of the city textures in HL2 would be awesome just to try out. How would I go about extracting textures from HL2? I did a search and read somewhere that there's a utility called VMsomething-2-tga, but that's for after you've converted the WAD. How do I do that?

Any help would be great thanks!

Hey man, thanks for the links. GCFScape doesn't seem to work - terminates with some error code as soon as I launch it. Is there any way I can export this as VTF's using the level editor itself? I seem to remember with older versions, this was possible...but I could be imagining that!

No you can't with the SDK, you have to extract the files from the gcf.

As you can see on that page, you need the .NET Framework v1.1 to run the program. You have it if you did all the Windows Updates.

You can also close Steam to be sure the gcf are not in use (but it should still work cuz there is a new feature that enables you to extract files even if Steam is running but.. just to be sure...)
