FakeFactory's cinematic mod

The cinematic mod isn't really worth it....imo, anyway. The sound doesn't sync up; the music is cool, but not for HL; everyone looks like they're all greasy or made of plastic; Alyx looks like a whore...

Although Barney looks mighty handsome. <3

But that doesn't make up for Alyx looking like a whore. :p

More like because it makes all the characters look embalmed, major NPCs look like whores, the music replacement is atrocious, and it's just all around stupid.

It's just a subpar experience. And most people probably only download it for the multitude of Alyx skins it comes with. You know why.
 
I like the higher resolution clothing and model textures but the faces look terrible and I don't care for the change in music and sound.

I'll drink to that...HIGHRES is a good thing...especially if the PC can handle it properly.
 
there is a ep2 fakefactory one out. though to run it maxed out you need to run with 64bit processing or it wont work well.

Sound doesn't sync? I don't experience that issue.
Greasy? Maybe on a low resolution, but at 1920x1200 they look incredibly detailed. FF has said you need to run this game on a high resolution for it to look good.

Alyx dressed as a whore? Yes I agree and don't like it at all. Does that condemn the mod? No, because you have the option of installing it. Notice I said "YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF INSTALLING THE ALYX SKINS", or to reiterate for some slow types, "YOU DON'T HAVE TO INSTALL ALYX SKINS".

God I love how you all can just call a persons hard work shit because you don't like certain aspects. Take the music for example: It's a cinematic mod designed to make HL2 feel more like a movie, the music in the mod is from sound tracks, makes a little sense yes? Just because it's not your style does not mean it sucks or is crap. And hey, if we put some brains or actual thought in to it, the music can be removed after you install it! But then again, that might require to much brain work, it's easier just to not install it at all and tell people you hate it. I bet none of you have ever made your own mod in your entire lives, why not appreciate that some people bother at all to give to the community instead of just leaching from it.

With my rant out of the way, yes the mod is currently being redone for EP2 by FakeFactory.
 
Yeah as dr.z said , it is the best mod ive ever seen, half life 2 was good but it didn't have a atmosphere(sp?) , thats what cinematic mod does.If you like the outdated graphics then stick with half life 2 know what ima saying~?

It's entirely possible to try to make something cinematic and fail at it. It's all well and good to try and make HL2 look more like a movie, but if the end product doesn't gel or cohere with the source material, then what good is it? That's what the Fakefactory mod looks like to me. A bunch of "cinematic" elements thrown onto the original game and none of it fits.

You're right that I never made a mod in my life. I've also never made a film, but I can still call Batman & Robin a piece of crap. I don't need to be part of some in-group before I'm allowed to criticize things.
 
The only aspect of the high res mod I thought was ok were the high res textures for the geometry props etc, the skins on the characters were awful, really took the personality away from them.

Batman & Robin was a great movie :P

I thought the music scores were pretty cool in some of the battle scenes, but the character skins were just a downright FAIL.

Of course you have your right to criticize. But to say it in such a matter-of-fact way is not correct. As shown here, some people like this mod and think it's good. Therefore, the mod does not suck, but it is a love it or hate it sort of thing. The correct advice to some one inquiring about the mod would be so say that it did not fit your style, and you didn't like it. But then again, as I don't know your style, you might like it. Give it a try and see what you think.

I must confess my original reaction was rather over the top. I am a modder as well (Animator to be more specific), and I really hate when people call my compiles crap because they don't like one or two aspects.
 
I seriously do not see in any way shape or form how I need the mod, and I guess that's why I didn't download it.

I will lol at the hilareous skins they will surely have for Magnusson though.
