AI - Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand.

I don't think that this has been talked about before, do you think this means that the AI will recognize things like the traps in trap town and will set them off? or maby just throwing barrels?

I think it means picking up/throwing stuff, the same way Gordon reportedly can.

Doubt it. This gives me a humorous picture in my mind.

A combine squad is walking down a large valley cooridor, and along the way are HUGE signs in bold letters saying *DANGER*TRAPS AHEAD*

And at the end is the craziest assortment of traps you can imigine. Spiked pits, swinging logs, all sorts of things. I bet they'd walk into it and get mutilated by every last bit :-P

You mean they won't whittle swords out of some planks of wood laying around?! ;(

I dont think that hey will be able to recognize "traps", becuase what fun would it be to make an elaborate surprise via the manipulator, just to have the combine avoid it?

No, but they do make good bombs out of the chemicals they find under the appartment sinks.

OMG YES!!! Think of how cool it would be if they did, the level of AI it would need to do that, it would be fu*king awesome.

Um, elephant, that's the guy who wrote the thread in the first place.

I think he's entitled to that opinion. :|

I don't think the Combine would recognize un-obvious traps, as that would detract from the fun. However, zombies are a different matter ....... :)

Zombies would walk blindly into anything. They're not "clever". However I have no doubt combine will try to avoid all dangers that they notice. You would emmidetly think a group of barrels are there to KILL you just because they're stacked, but meh, that's the combine's problem, not mine.

The zombies don't even have any eyes.

I personally reckon they detect things by a combination of scent, brain wave emanations, and air movements.

Should mean some of us are pretty safe then ;)
lmao

I think you could "tag" whether something should be noticed by an enemy entity when you're making the map, or maybe the AI can recognize entities within a level, and gathering info on how much damage it does etc, so smart enemies will stay away from them. Zombies however will probably be coded to just walk into them if they are in the path of them, hehe.

Another theory would be when creating the damaging entity itself, tagging like what kind of enemies that will do extra effort in staying away from the trap, and what enemies that won't care at all. AI that's so advanced it would detect the location of physics objects and damage etc totally in pure dynamic AI would be too straining for todays computers, and this is very easy to fake with tagging etc.

lmao

MacGyver: A Half-Life 2 Modification

You know, make a manipulator out of a rubber band, litre of milk and several racoons.
