Fighting the two antlion mamas

I'm playing on hard and I've emptied all my ammo into these bastards as well as using the exploding drums. Problem is they are still alive. Where can I find more ammo?

Yah. The engine block works well for that; failing that, there're rocks and non-explosive barrels too.

I noticed that the regular one (the orange one) doesnt come out even if you walk all the way up to his entrance ...

So i stacked every car and object i could find up against it, with every single explosive barrel in the area right against the door ...

The bastard still broke through, and even shooting the barrels as he was coming out didnt kill him completely

I really wish they had made a better model for the new one.

That was a fun level - I got knocked around a couple of times. I left the barrels where they were and waited for the ant lions to go try to knock them at us, for a lovely explosion in the face and an enraged ant lion.

This fight can be a bitch on Hard. I was once hiding in the enclosure and noticed green mama running off down the valley. So I just concentrated on the other guard. Then some engine landed besides me and I was like "wtf?"... Looked around just in time to see a white car flying, hundreds of feet in the air and heading straight towards... my freaking head! Was just able to get out of the way before the car crashed inches from me. It was such a action movie moment... the only thing missing was some extra yelling "look out!"... and another extra getting squished...

Green mama must have aced maths while at school... that was some projectile calculation.

To the tread starter, metal beams work best.

I had a few really close encounters with the car throwers as well. And it's not good to just climb to that wooden ramp, as normal antlions spawn and attack you there.

Explosives and projectiles are the way to go.

I did mostly use guns. However I ran low on ammo, I did go hunting, so I got some ammo and killed both of them. D:

After my 1st runthrough of the game, I replayed it and tried setting traps for tough/boss fights to see what I can accomplish. Apparently, it mostly takes 6 explosive barrels positioned together to autokill one of the antlion guards/guardians. At the end of experimenting, I found out that the guard comes out after the guardian but it gets very difficult to approach the guardian's entrance without triggering it. So I rigged the guard's entrance with a trap of 6 barrels and positioned myself so when the guard charges out, it will charge into the barrels and kill itself. As for the guardian, I put the 6 barrel formation by the rocks near the closest outpost. I lure the guardian to charge towards me in the open then I shift myself behind the rocks for the guardian to charge to certain death. Somehow when I start off behind the rocks, the guardian doesn't charge straight at me but runs around the rock so for anyone trying this be sure to take notice.
Once I got it down it was fun to see the guard dying automatically and then luring the guardian to death, while wasting ZERO ammo!
And if they don't die on the blast, they will die with a few crowbar swings~

This was one of those moments where forcing the player into one narrow route of gameplay broke realism somewhat; if it were the real world, if faced with a bed of antlions and two tank-sized antlion guard(ians), I'd simply turn the **** around and find another way to get where I'm going, even if I had to travel a few miles out of the way.

You know it took me forever to realize that I should throw the sinks and urinals at the Big antlion in Nova Prospekt.

LOL I never did...only used the carts until I could break through that boarded up door...
