i was reading these forums and somewhere, it was said that the metrocops were humans that had not been altered to be soldiers. and that this was done on purpose. then later i was playing hl2 and i realized that the mask looked like an ape's head. and then i saw the grafitti that's spread throughout the game. (the one that shows a metrocops helmet, a humans head, and an apes head) and i realized it was propaganda saying that the combine was the next step in evolution! woah.
sorry if some of this doesnt make sense, i couldnt find the picture of the grafitti i was talking about

Yep. Thats pretty old news. They ARE altered humans, Dude, They have been stripped of their humanity. So yes, they are the next in our evolutionary chain.

You hit the nail on the head - that's what most of us generally assume that graffiti means, that the combine are the next step in human evolution. Unfortunately, you're about two years too late all of that has been discussed to death. I remember one or two major threads about HL2's graffiti, a bit of searching should yield decent results.

yeah i was inspired to replay the entire half life series after reading these forums and the entire story on wikipedia. its just that i was so excited i realized something haha. anyway it seems as if those masks are given to the metro cops as a form of humiliation. anyways.

Humiliation? Terror. A mask - gasmasks in particular - tends to remove all essence of humanity in a person, making a near-faceless, emotionless individual. Or perhaps not even an individual. You can't identify one from another or anything.

Facelessness is not humiliating. It's terrifying.

You have to remember too that before HL2 came out we were all debating whether or not Overwatch and metrocops were even human. The gasmasks not only remove individuality but the look also removes the look of humanity from these soldiers.

i meant by the fact that the masks look ape-ish. but yeah they look pretty awesome.
