Fileplanet looking for testers

Being an actuall game tester is probably one of the most monotonus jobs in the world.

Tempting, but not with exams coming up

Just thought I'd let people know...there are some nice rewards there too. And some people use testing as a means of progressing. Learn from other people's mistakes and all that.

Not really my cup of tea either but saw it and thought that it might be of use to some...

gametesting is horrible - you'd think it's great but it is actually soul destroying
the fact that you have to play mediocre/unfinished/shit games all day long makes it even worse
only worth while if you are actually pursuing a career in gaming and even still its fairly superfluous

"Successful applicants will be measured on participation and rewarded for their time with free FilePlanet subscriptions, free games from Direct2Drive, and a variety of other prizes."

are they joking? it's usually a paid gig ..they're getting cheap labour with minimal payout on their part

I didn't mind game testing, but that's because I've been conditioned by being in MANY beta's :P

My last beta's were Quake IV and Call of Duty 2 on the game-side and currently testing Windows Vista.

QuakeIV and CoD2 were just awesome experiences... Sure there are some bugs, but you still get to have your fun trash-talking and doing all the fun competition...

Though naturally every time you play, there is a time when everyone stops the game to try to reproduce certain bugs... Those aren't bad because usually we find the bug and can repro it within 30 minutes if we knew what happened exactly.

I signed up for this, I hope I get picked. :)

As a thank-you for testing some Activision games I actually received a signed-copy of Doom3, t-shirt (Call of Duty style), and obviously 99% of the games I test. :) I was pretty much a volunteer, working from my own home so I didn't get paid... I wish though!

*Edit* I know some members on here were part of the Visioneers... RIP Vis!!!

How did you get into this kind of thing?
I think it would be great and I have lots of free time for the summer. (my job is from 6am to 2:30pm. Yeah, it's nice;))

Thanks

The Activision program was actually cut (as in they now require all testers to be on their campus... :( ) from their budget, so it was put to rest early this year. (which is why I said RIP Vis)

Basically what you need to do is just get out there and test things... betawatcher.com is where I suggest, and obviously you don't start out testing AAA games right away (my first game was Joan of Arc...) but you build up a resume, and then you get the experience to test AAA games...

Just wait for the opportunities :)

I signed up for the hell of it. Free games is better than paying.

alot of companies will mail you things if you are just sort of a volunteer working from home (some even do over seas), but i guess it depends, some companies will just recruit a few thousand so you probably won't get anything (except maybe a discount on buying the game) but if you're in a smaller, more organised group the chances are higher .. from experience.
