Final fight with Strider

did anyone else think it was a little easy?
tough to get to kill height,but easy once you did,from the citadel destruction to 1 strider,we destroy 100's of them in HL2
 
At the very end, there was essentially no difference between that fight and the one in Space Invaders, in 1978. Pop out, shoot, pop back. Rinse, repeat.
 
It shoots faster and has way better aim.

That strider is special, give it some love.
 
it took 5 quick rpg's instead of 3...thats the only difference I saw,although the giant laser explosion beam of death did seem different...hmmmm...
 
When I played that part I didn't realize it was THE fight. :|
 
I think the struggle to get to the rocket stash in one piece was meant to be the hard part.
 
I hate that fight. Not fun at all, and the strider acted retarded. Use your warpy cannon of doom, damn it!
 
It really caught me out at first shoving the containers about, I thought that was a really nice touch.
 
I liked it. Half-life had puzzle bosses, like the Giant Tentacles or the Garg. It was enough of the HL1 experience that the expansions continued to have puzzle bosses. Half-life 2 didn't really have any, with the arguable exception of Dr. Breen and bringing down the citadel. The Ep1 finale had a little bit of puzzle boss flavor. You can't beat it just by shooting it repeatedly: like the Giant Tentacles or Garg, you have to survive it and maneuver around its attacks while completing some objective to finally kill it (prepare and test a rocket, turn on generators, or simply get more ammo).

I think the final battle in Ep1 was good, but not as good as the HL1 bosses I mentioned (better than the Op4 & BS ones, though). Given that that sort of gameplay is a key component of HL1 and almost non-existent in HL2, I definitely don't want them to abandon it and not come back to it. It's very Half-life. If anything, I wish they'd have a true puzzle boss (not one defeated with your weapons) once in Ep3 -- it could be amazing with cinematic physics. They did it beautifully in Portal.
 
Hmm the Striders, Gunships are some little puzzles. You need to gather rockets from there, here etc....
The Striders at EP2: No puzzle, accuracy. Recommended to kill the Hunters (Mini-Striders)
