Firearms: Source comes to us with a mighty update showcasing a couple of brand new weapons, and in game screenshots. FA:S now has 36 guns ready to roll out, and they are working on even more. The most recent 5 include a M16A2, G3, Beretta 92FS, OTs-33 automatic pistol and the well known Vollmer from the original Firearms. (See media below for it in action). Also for those of you curious on way the FA weapon system operates, this update has provided further information on this gameplay system.
When joining a server, each player is given 30 credits to spend on whatever combination of fire-power, body armour and items they want. With over 36 guns , 3 vest types, 3 kinds of armour addons, and numerous misc items, there's an unfathomable amount of options available. With no restrictions other than the 30 credits, players can choose all kinds of set-ups from traditional primary/secondary/knife/grenade and "medium" amounts of body armour, to carrying five pistols and six grenades, two assault rifles and a helmet, a sniper rifle and a submachine gun, three submachine guns and a pistol, or just go full heavy armour and a shotgun.
The team has also taken a lot of new talent on recently, freeing up more time for the developers. However they are always looking for highly skilled mappers, animators and sound artists if you want to be involved in a very high quality mod. See the full update for Firearms: Source, on their website, including some nice renders.

glenn's in mah base stealin all my nooz

Hopefully all of these weapons won't all feel the same.

Yay for the Vollmer! I remember when they removed it in the later versions along with the akimbo Uzi's.

we're doing our best to differentiate them. Personally I feel there's a quite vast difference between the weapons (especially the assualt rifles) but that's just my opinion.

We're making a concerted effort to try to implement specialized or somewhat rare weapons to help achieve this. The vollmer would be a good example of this.

Also we're always looking for more weapons artists as we started a weapons overhaul a few months ago. If you are a weapons artist looking to get your work in a game with a fairly quick turnaround time don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or a pm on these boards.

Awesome, I'll be keeping my eye on this for sure.

Had some fun with the HL1 mod.

Never heard of the Vollmer MP5 conversion, that shit's badass.

The original FA weapons are all very unique to eachother. It was pretty fun trying out loads of different combinations to stop it from getting stale.

I used to love this mod back in the day (I can't believe how long ago that was). But for how slow this development is going I think many will lose interest by the time this is set to release.

Not this year, that's for sure.
They're going to have a lot of balancing to do.

we've been testing and balancing for the last 18 months.

fair enough, but I should note that the mod has only been around for 18 months. Production didnt begin until the original team gave us permission to make a sequel (of course much of the original FA team is ON the FAS team now so... :p )

at the end if I'm playing in a 32 player server that's full I'm happy, I just want to enjoy FA again :)

To be fair I haven't really been keeping up with this. But I do know that the first time I heard about this project was ages ago and still nothing. I'm sure the developers are doing a great job though and I'm looking forward to trying this out. You just have to consider the fact that the source engine has been out for over 4 years now, I don't know that it has a lot of steam left in it (no pun intended :) ).

As long as you manage to capture the same atmosphere and fun gameplay of the original, take as long as you like. Well, not too long. I'd wish more classics would move onto the Source engine.

Yeah I understand, I would love to be able to release it today but there's still bugs to be fixed and art to be completed. If it's any consolation I and many people on the team are treating it like a second job (40+ hours a week dev time).

This would be an opportune time to put another appeal out for weapons modelers :D
