Flight Simulator X

I just skimmed over the pics, and yea it looks quite juicy :)
I think areas like these look the most realistic:

The ocean water wasn't very good though...at least not close up.

Doesn't seem like a whole lot of fun though :| Not enough shooting/explosions :p

Looks ok, they showed some at the CES Bill Gates keynote but I only saw it in low res. I expect the game would be pretty huge in size with the amount of textures needed.

Wow the world doesn't look so much like a barren wasteland now!

That forum link doesn't work.

And I'm too lazy to do my own research.

From that screenshot this definitely looks like a step up :D Me want see planes now!

There's one of the many available at that forum... Link still works for me.

The terrain looks fantastic, check out all those trees! Kickass.

oh nice, now all they need is a first person walk around for the interior's and virtual passenger's :P. plx

That'd be disturbing. Just imagine, you lose control of the flight (I'm shite at flight sims) and all the passengers scream as you plummet earthward. D:

Much better than when they just had a map as the ground texture, and occasionally the odd grey skyscraper rising out of it.

That'd be fantastic :naughty:  :bounce:

lol, I played the first MSFS ever, over 20 years ago. The graphics consisted of a green-on-black grid with barely any geographical features. This series has come a long way. My dad will pre-order this one for sure. I agree with Idonotbelonghere tho: Not enough shooting/explosions.

Looks nice. Pretty big improvement over the older versions. Doubt i'll play it ever though...

A new Combat Flight Simulator, that looks like that would own all.

Looks very nice. This will probably be the first Microsoft Flight Simulator game I play. Any clue when its gonna be released?

You need alot of patience to succesfully play MSFS, it ain't like say Silent Hunter 3 in terms of simulation, you have to use alot of switches, pretty much every button on your keyboard, including Shift, Shift+Ctrl etc are used.:p

I'd love to see this on a console, but how'd that be possible with a joypad you ask?
How about buying a flight stick, and scripting in the game to have a co-pilot that responds to voice commands?
So you could just use the 360 headset for example and give commands like "flaps up" "Flaps down" "Activate autopilot" etc etc.

I'd love for a co-pilot that could fly the entire flight and land.. so I could enjoy the graphics..

Why?

Because when I fly in Microsoft Flight Simulators, it basically goes like this, run off runway, lift off, crash.:D

It does look impressive for a flight sim tho.

One thing I always hated about FS was that everything felt so....lonely. The world felt empty. Every now and then you would see another plane around, but that was the extent of it.

Looks like that's finally being fixed in FSX

Do you think Microsoft will auto-alert the FBI to anyone abusing those type of features?

lol xbox, makes me wonder too, but yeh.. how can you play a simulator with a controller, they would have to release some kind of custom keyboard thing to go with it, the voice command thing would be cool, but a simulator on a console would be awkward as hell.

clarky, yeah I know, XB had one of the best mech simulators ever tho, but that was only because Capcom could afford to release a 150 joypad to go with their sim, it sold out very quickly tho, worldwide, I'd like to see more attempts like that on consoles.:)

That'd be the highlight of the game:D

The water is missing reflections in that second pic. The boat needs reflections, the dock needs reflections, the water should react to the propeller. Even Battlefield 2 has better graphics. Then again, i won't be playing a simulator. So screw that.

It looks like they took satellite pictures and put little boxes over where each house was. If you look closely, you can see 2 dimensional houses under the 3D ones. It looks really awesome, though. Can you fly over the whole world in this game or do you pick certain parts of it?

Whole world probably, just like the previous MS Flight Sim.

X has I think.. 72,000 airports overall.
That's ALOT if you think about it!:D

Just a few :P

I think I might get this one if it turns out to be fun at all... or if there is a combat flight sim for it in the works...

I got fed up with flight sims a few years ago, they get dull after a while.

I now only find flying fun in multiplayer games with other people either in my plane or on the ground and i'm supporting/attacking them.
Used to like having the duty of picking up injured mates in choppers in OFP.

Now if they made an amazing new space sim (like elite) that would attract me.

short recoil, there's the X games, they're pretty good, also, Elite 3 ain't that hard to get running under Win XP, if you haven't played that.
I myself tho, would like a REAL new space sim, i.e. ala Microsoft Space Simulator, that accurately simulates current space tech etc, and you could go around the universe, land on the moon, WALK around on it(All this could you do in MS Space Simulator)

Agreed, apart from one thing.
Microsoft space sim would be made real time no doubt.
I don't know about you but i would hate to sit there a couple of days whilst doing the "apollo missions"
A simulation isn't meant to be fun (unless you are a spong) a game is.

Yeah that's true.
I wonder if they'll ever get out Elite 4, hasn't been any new info since it's announcement iirc... Which was like '98 or something, earlier probably..
