Remember back in the day when Shenmue 1 was online with the passport? Remember how it was closed down in April, 4 years ago? Well... it's back! :O
That's right. You can once again hook up your Dreamcast to the internet and access the Shenmue Passport online content. Sega started to put the service back online on the 22nd of this month for the US and from the 25th for Japan and Europe (not sure about Australia).
Nobody is yet sure why they are putting the service back online. But it may have something to do with the fact that Sega are starting to sell off their stock of Dreamcasts in Japan or maybe something to do with Shenmue online. Though to be honest I doubt it's to do with either of those. Why bring back a service thats been down for 4 years just because you're selling off your stock in Japan (if this was the reason then why put the service back in the US and Europe?) And I highly doubt it has anything to do with Shenmue Online becuase at the moment its a Chinese and Korean game only.
Anyway... check out this thread over at the Shenmue Dojo where the discovery was made. There's also a guide on how to hook your Dreamcast up to the internet via your computer if you don't have dial-up.

You may also want to check out www.hazukidojo.com (another good Shenmue site)
To me this is great news. Shows that people at Sega are still thinking about Shenmue. It may only be some loyal fan within the company setting up the service but i hope it's something bigger than that. I'd love to see Shenmue re-released for another console before Shenmue 3 for example. Hey, i can dream
