Free Anti-Virus software

If anybody knows of free, quality anti-virus software, could you please point me in it's direction? My computer cought a virus a couple minutes ago (stupid me), and Nortan isn't detecting it, but it's obviously there since it initially disabled Task Manager and Registry editing.
 
Norton has most likely been disabled by the virus, reboot your computer with the norton installation disk in the drive and BEFORE WINDOWS STARTS boot from your cd drive and norton should have an option to scan for viruses there - you may need to change your boot order in the BIOS

If norton fails to find it then this is qiuite a good one, but if you install it with a smart virus on your computer it'll just disable this one too:

Since the AVG update server has been slow recently, I'd recommend AVAST.
www.avast.com
Its simple to use and picks up viurses, trojans and worms.
And the update server is fast.
