Free hl2 :)

Ok i have free hl2 coupon in my new ATI. IM about to send in all the paper work + coupon + receipt so i can get a boxed version when it comes out rather than steam.

WHat i want to ask is can i use my passcode to get the steam version so i can play as I wait 4 weeks for boxed version delivery? I have already used my passcode from ati card to get hl1/cs1/etc.

And how much do i have to pay shippinNhandling for boxed, ati or valve site dont tell me.

I think they said you should be able to use the passcode to use Steam. Don't know about shipping and handling though.....depends on how much it weighs i guess.

Well if you want the boxed version, then you cannot get it off steam, because its for one copy only, not 2.

IIRC you have to pay for shipping which will probably be a couple of dollars/pounds/euros depending on where you live.

I was told by a retailer selling the 9800xt card that ati charges...

$15.00 to ship........which is fine because its better then 50 or 60 bucks for the full game price. I would also rather have box then pure download from steam. There is just somthing about having the cds and manual etc.

remember peeps, it said allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. you telling me you gonna risk waiting that long when you can just download it the day it's released. I know what i'm doing with my coupon, that's for sure...

ahh they always say...

4 to 6 weeks just to cover themselves. They dont know where they are shipping it and how much volume they will need to ship. Heck amazon tells me ship dates of 2 3 weeks and I end up getting it in 5 days, so it depends

i guess ill steam it. IM just hoping steam gives me the whole game and not missing files so that i always have to open up steam for hours just to play and crap like that.

When steam is finished fully dloading hl2 for me (im on cable shouldn't take over a day) i hope i can play so i dont gotta be connected online and burn it on cd.

i think the Free Hl2 thing is hilarious if you werent getting it from steam.

1. you gotta pay shipping.

2. you have to wait for weeks to get it.

3. you probably have no warranty on the thing so if they send a funked copy your screwed.


if id done the coupon thing and had to do that id go out anf buy it anyway then store my "free" copy when i got it incase the original broke.

Also, keep in mind that you have to wait 4-6 weeks after HL2 is released. That's when the clock starts.

what they should do is allow people to apply for the game now and have those games delivered on the day of the realease ,or close to it

Yah, I have to wait a couple days for my copy to come after it's released. However, it's being shipped from Gamestop instead
