The release date for the Free To Play Dota 2 documentary has been announced as March 18th 2014. The documentary, which has been created by a small team within Valve over the period of a few years, is a feature-length film which takes a close look into the personal lives of some of the biggest players in the Dota 2 competitive scene, including Danil Ishutin (Dendi), Benedict Lim (HyHy), and Clinton Loomis (Fear). The documentary is primarily focused around the very first International tournament, which took place back in 2011. For a closer look at the subjects touched upon in the documentary, check out the brand new trailer below.

The documentary will premiere at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco on Tuesday, March 18th 2014 at 8pm PDT. The event will conclude with an exclusive Q&A with the creators of the documentary (Valve employees) and unannounced special guests. Tickets for the event are available for $25 per person, but don't get too down if you won't be able to attend, as the film will be made available on Steam for free a day later on March 19th 2014.

A "Free To Play Pack" will also be introduced on the same day, featuring multiple in-game items for Dota 2, such as player-themed cosmetic item sets for Doom, Pudge, and Sven. The pack will also include special Free To Play themed wards alongside a new HUD and a courier created by Valve themselves. Proceeds from purchases of the pack will be distributed to the players featured in the film and the contributors responsible for the creation of the item sets.

As for the film itself, the documentary was previously shown privately to guests attending The International 3 tournament in August 2013. Viewers from the event were relatively positive regarding the documentary, praising the film's ability to discuss the "challenges and sacrifices required of players to compete at the highest level" of competitive eSports. Needless to say, the Free To Play documentary is definitely one to watch.

Will you be tuning in to the film once it is released on Steam, or will you be attending the premiere in San Francisco? Let us know in the comments below.
