hey, can anyone help me out... every time i play half-life2 it freezes after about 10 min. of game play, hell not even game play, it will freez on the menu screen as well. And CS:S keeps freezing then crashing and takes me back to my desktop but HL-2 just stops! please some one help me!!! thank you... :)

*edit* ok i was just playing it a second ago (HL2) and all of a sudden in the middle of the like... 3rd loading screen in raven home or what ever its called ( that how it sounds any way) and it just crapped out on me and when back to my desktop and left this little message for me: {THE INSTRUCTIONS AT "0x241f941f7" REFERENCED MEMORY AT "0x0d89f41c". THE MEMORY COULD NOT BE "read". } what the f***k does this mean!!!?

I'll send them

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2135MHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1
Video card: nVIDIA 6200
force ware version: 81..98

Im seeing now that i have DirectX 8 and i dont know why that is because i remember getting 9c im not sure if this is the problem but Im gonna go get that fixed anyway.. but these are the general specs. Im know HL2 has no problem running on my computer considering i was running it earlier on a hella slower processer. any who... i hope this helps you to help me... I appreciate it.

Perhaps your computer is overheating. Put your hand inside your computer. Is it teh hot?

it wasnt getting any hotter then it usally does. I have a thermometer on the outside of my case. For some reason it measures in fahrenheit, Its supposed to be able to get to 85 degrees celsius before it over heats, when playing i only get to about 130 degrees fahrenheit or 54 degrees Celsius... so i dont think thats the problem. but it might help to blow out some dust, i couldnt hurt.

85 degres celsius???? Are you trying to kill your computer? You know that water boil at 100 degres? And you know that in the hottest countries in Africa and maybe Iraq also its more then 50 degeres outside...imgainge 85...INSIDE YOUR COMPUTER...desert, a complete replica of Iraq dude.

But i dunno about temps and comps combined...so maybe im way off

it probably isnt... i need to check the book but im sure thats what it is... and i said it can go up to 85 then crash, it never gets that hot!
wether im wrong or not ( most likely wrong ) this dones help my problem becuase I've never had a problem with over heating and that I've never gotten this message before refering to HL2.exe ( or thats what the little box said at the top left... more or less) :

THE INSTRUCTIONS AT "0x241f941f7" REFERENCED MEMORY AT "0x0d89f41c". THE MEMORY COULD NOT BE "read"

I hope i get some helpfull replies, im gonna be gone and away from my computer for about a week... so... ya...

Just because it -can- doesn't mean you should let it. A shocking 50 C is my maximum before I turn on the fans to full force-if it's not the problem, I'm willing to bet it isn't helping in any way.

I'll try the steam forums but im not worried about it over heating right now. Im really just asking if any one else has had the same problem and gotten the same message and how they fixed it...

damn it!!! what part of " heating is not a problem!!!" dont you understand!!! for get I mentioned any thing about the temps. of my pc!!! im just gonna repost the thred in the " help " forum... or what ever its called.

Calm people, 85C can shorten the life of some stuff, but it won't kill it.

Hell, the core slowdown threshold on my 6800 Go is 97C.

Computers are not made of water. It's an invalid comparison :)

To get back to your problem, the error you got, have you done search on the Steam forums / Google?

thank you! and yes i did. turns out its a pretty common problem and was easily fixed by updateing my my directX. there are also alot of other things that you can do to fix this problem... and it turns out that hitting Alt + Tab ( to take you to your desktop ) will start makeing this message appear if you do it offten.
