I had game crashes during the one area when your running from the big antlion but I managed to get past it by using that crouching to the right and strafing method.

Now during the next Gman sequence right after the Vorts begin to heal Alyx it freezes as Gman is talking like 1 minute into it (or less)

How do I get past this???? I dont get any kind of error the game just crashes. All the other games run fine on my pc (TF2, Counterstrike, Portal, HL2, HL2 EP1) This game is sweet but is starting to get on my nerves with all these little problems

Any help would be awesome.

That scene seems to be causing problems on lower-end PC's. You might be screwed. but yes, what are your PC's Specs?

I'm pretty sure it has to do with your graphics settings. Turn them down a little and see how things work for you.

On occasion, I've had crashes playing all the HL2 games and the vast majority of the problems were caused by running my computer harder than I should. But I overclock both my CPU and my graphics cards to levels just below where the overclocked components would cause my computer to crash.

I tried turning down the graphics and sound to the "low" setting and it went a little further but still crashes......anyway to skip over this or turn down something else???

as far as system goes its def. not high end but its a brand new Dell laptop with AMD Athlon X2 dualcore TK-53 1.7 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics card

I have no problems running team fortress 2 or any of the other half life games so this is a little frustrating, my system exceeds the minimum requirements

Have you tried installing the latest drivers for your graphics processor? Or if they're up to date, try re-installing the ones you're running.

i will try to update the drivers........hopefully that works, thanks for the help so far

I had the same crash in the antlion tunnel. I tried all the fixes suggested and nothing worked except crouching, facing the wall opposite the body, and strafing left until I was in the room with the lift. I also have the crash in the GMan sequence.

I have a 17" MacBook Pro C2D 2.33GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI X1600 w/ 256MB (dedicated), running OS X 10.4 with Boot Camp.

When I play games, I boot My Boot Camp partition which has a fairly trim XP Pro install, with all the updates, AVG (anti-virus), Steam, and a few games. The video drivers are the Apple branded ATI drivers from May 2007 (fairly old, but stable). All the other valve games run flawlessly, as did Bioshock.

Here are things I tried unsuccessfully:
* Starting from a saved game outside of THIS VORTAL COIL.
* Following the steam suggested tips including adding some command line stuff and monitoring the paged pool memory (no problem).
* Removed AVG - completely uninstalled, deleted remnants, rebooted, made sure no remnants remained.
* Closed all other running processes that weren't necessary.
* Removed ep2, deleted saved games, re-downloaded ep2.
* Increased XP's page file from 2048 to 3072.

Then I updated the video driver using the latest ATI drivers and DriverHaven's DH Mobility Modder which allows notebook users to install the latest drivers when their notebook manufacturer hasn't "authorized" them. That did nothing except give me some additional features through Catalyst Control Center (which is nice).

BUT... I still can't get past the GMan! Is there a way to bypass the cut-scene?

I downloaded and installed the ATI Catalyst Control center for my video card with the updated driver...........game worked like a charm, also seemed to be an update from Steam right before I played it

played through the entire game tonight, Half Life is definitely the best story line and has the best gameplay of any FPS Ive ever played, keeps me hooked like no other game

I switched to windowed mode and played from my last save point to get a screenshot of the error message, and it played through the entire cut-scene without crashing! No other changes that I can think of. So that may be an option for others who are crashing there.

Good luck!
