I played HL2 and & EP1 without any problems
but at the beginning of EP2 , the game crashes with error

The Instruction "0x....." referenced memory at "0x......" The memory could not be "read".

I expanded the virtual memory paging file to the maximum but no way !! still getting the error..

any suggestions how to resolve this problem?

Thanks

same godamn problem......
WTF?!?!?!?!!!

to solve your exact problem man,
as soon as alyx starts to chat with her dad and company, walk back to where you first spotted the zombie headcrabs under the floorboards and wait until alyx is finished and comes out.
after that you should be able to walk on through the shack and get to the next part just fine, but be warned, i did the same and not much farther away my game crashes AGAIN right after alyx asks me to open a gate for her....

yet again,
WTF!

yeah that worked and as you said crashed again while trying to find a way to open the gate !!!

yeah it crashes for me too, when Kleiner says something about the portal.. yay, just finished downloading and started playing.... pff. and the next time i get to play it is on christmas vacation!! :(((((((

same for me,, and it's the same place that I get to :frown:
I trie to uninstall all my steam games and reinstall (download :bonce:) them all again,,, but it's the same.. Then I trie to follow the support FAQ that steam has,, but it makes no differens..

So now i posted a support request .........

please advice is any has any progress,, and I will poste any news when I get them

I have the exact same issue. I tried it again removing AVG Anti-Virus because valve said some anti-viral programs interfere, but it still happened. The worse part is that the game worked with no problems a month ago. What has happened?

Has anybody reported the crashes at the very start of the game to STEAM support ?.. I have a few days ago,, but no responde yet :-(

it seems that the update they send out on hte 26th fixed that problem :bounce:

hey that's great, I'll get to see whether it works on 22.12.

hi everybody... i just installed the game two days ago, and got the same message error. steam was updated automatically, so it should be running with the latest version. i also installed the game on another system, and got the same message, with different references though... the message appears before the loading of the game is completed, that is between the valve film and the menu options appear. any idea how to fix this, please...?
