Game does not load

Problem: On launching HL2 I see the logo then the loading screen and the blurry picture but nothing further occurs. I have left this over night before on numerous occasions but I cannot get the game to load. I then have to end the hl2.exe task.

PC Spec -

Nvidia Geforce4 ti 4600
1512mb RAM
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 1.73ghz
Windows XP SP2
Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
DirectX9.0c


I have come here as a last resort. I already have a 4 page thread on the steam forum and a support case open with steam going back to June 20th but as yet have not found the source of my problem. I have done a lot to try and sort it out but here are a few of them so as to avoid repetition -

Updated all drivers - video, sound, motherboard, BIOS etc and all hardware firmware.
Downgraded video drivers to various versions.
Switched off anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware
Defragged
Reinstalled about four times (from HD and DVD)

In steam I have run runsafe, validate, -dev and all the other validation and parameters they offer.

All I can do now is wait until one of you friendly, helpful and knowledgable people reply and give me something new to try.

I think I found your problem. You have 1512 (Not sure how this works) MB of ram. Probably corrupt.

Maybe you have a weak power supply, your sound blaster, your ti 4600 may take up too much power. Or maybe its your 1.73 processor..Upgrading an old computer is such a waste of time. Go buy a dell with a good processor and put all the stuff you have in your computer now into the dell. TST..well 1512 mb of RAM is also known as three 512mb sticks, or any other combination that leads up to 1512.

First, reformat your disk. If it doesn't work after that..its DELL time

There are roughly only 1024, 1152, 1280 and 1536 MB of RAM. In the region of 1 GB and 1.5GB of RAMs

512*3=1536 and NOT 1512. So no, I don't know how possibly he could get 1512.

You're only saying that because you know that off the top of your head. He's saying he has 1512 because its just easier to understand, if he decides to come back to this thread and read what i just wrote..hell change it to 1536 just for you

Your probably right, its better to have two or four sticks of the same kind of RAM.

if that were the case then why would computers allow you to put that set of sticks together.. I seriously doubt the RAM is the problem..i was reading another thread earlier and another person had the same problem. go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > NVIDIA Drivers delete them. Go to nvidia.com and redownload the drivers. Its the only way to be sure that the video card is the problem. If you get the same problems then well...reformat.. reformatting always works. I'm sitting here at summer school and i am just looking at forums and playing snowcraft...lol. <3 being finished with work.

onboard video was probably using 16mb
