My dad has recently bought his own rig, and HL2 with it. But whenever he tries to start up, the 'loading' just closes. It starts up, 'Preparing to play Counter-Strike Source...', the Cancel button gets unclickable, and the Preparing to play window closes. But, after this, nothing happens. We can still click everything in Windows, the game just hasn't launched. I have verified everything, deleted local game content, un- and reinstalled, reverificated, everything that was in my power. If anyone has had the same problem and knows how to fix it, or if you had the same problem or you know how to fix it, please tell. Thanks in advance, Boogymanx.

Try to restart, make sure no HL2.exe is running (Ctrl-Alt-Delete, then look in Processes.)

posting system specs wud be an idea.

P4 3.4, 1g RAM, gfx card is Radeon X600 (temporary), Asus P5GD1-Pro is mobo, and he has a 7200 rpm 80gb Hard-drive

since he has just purchased this rig, it could be that HL2 is updating in the background, therefor u may need to wait for the downloading to finish b4 been able to play. Is steam doing anything when u load it up? (look on the icon @ system tray, bottom right)

Nah, everything's updated (Everything being HL2, CS:S and HL2DM)

Click start - Right click on "My computer" - Click "manage".
Open the "Event Viewer" tree
Go through the logs for Application and System, see if you can find anything that mentions source, hl2.exe, css, etc etc.

If you find anything that looks relevent, post it up :)

Well, I fixed it. Turns out I forgot to update gfx card drivers :|

I know! Try updateing your drivers! I bet that will work!

What? Everyone else seems to post solutions after one has clearly been found.
