I was just reading an old preview from gamespy - and I came across this very cool bit:

For his trouble, we hit the Strider a few times with our shotgun, and you could practically see the life drain out of the creature, as it collapsed to earth in a convincing manner. It was, by far, the most impressive demo we saw during the day, and only hints at the kind of cool stuff we might see in the final game.

Found here:

So just a couple of shots from the good ol' shotgun can kill the beast we've been all talking about HOW to kill?

I hope valve purposely did that for gamespy for demonstration reason only, because if the strider can't die with a Gazillion rockets, and only from a shotgun...than...that's just sick!

Yet.. 19829182 rockets don't kill it? Sounds like it was changed a bit :)

Then again, MAYBE, just maybe, the shotgun is laced with candy.. .. .. wait, what? That makes no sense you say? hm.

I know, prolly valve was like "these guys are kids, give them them the uber uber easy strider".

I second that ;)

I guess the difficulty settings have really noticable differences :p

omG!! Gamespy killed the Strider!? Video killed the Radio Star!?! wtf is happening!?

:dozey: That Strider didn't die, it feel asleep. It got bored being shot at so it was like man, these guys are pure retarded. I am going to sleep but they will think I am dead!

hey maybe there is a weak point for the strider
so they used the shotgun on that point

It doesn't really make sense because the 19829182 rockets would already have blown up the weak spot :hmph:

 Oh yeah! Of course brilliant point! Of course the weak point is the Striders incredibaly large penis!

Or...just maybe, VALVe decided to make the demo something much cooler than shooting an indestructible enemy. You know, to show off the excellent animations. Just a thought guys.

they killed it!?!?!

the poor strider.... it was just nestling its young

I guess it doesn't just keep going and going and going and going and goi............______

HAHA...

VALVe Guy1: "If they die during the game, they will give us bad reviews."
VALVe Guy2: "Yeah, lets create a super easy level for them, ultra easy."

VALVe Guy1&2: "You will be playing on normal, so if you can get a Strider, we will be impressed by your owns skill."

GameSpy: "WE DID IT! 10/10"

Yes I read that before too, but that suks in my opinion cause a creature as powerfull as Teh Strider Should take more than 4-8 RBGs (rockets) to kill it,,, just as we saw it in the e3 2004 vid.............> :|

I hop valve did not change the Strider's settings . :dozy:

It's been said that Striders come in various sizes, so maybe this shotgunned one was of the smallest variety.

LOL! That would be sweet! It would have to come with littlle plastic resistance fighters to impale!

Lol. I keep thinking bart simpson when i read that last post.

Or could be you have to do something before hand?

Maybe turn off it's power supply (which may be somewhere else and not actually attached to the strider)? Weaken it's shields? Or something similar or on that level? Or maybe you have to lead it through some area where it becomes weaker (magnetic field or fire or something) and once it passes through that area it becomes vulnerable?

Just guessing, but since HL1 had a lot of similar "puzzle" type elements, it would seem a logical answer.

I hope that that they are buff like in the demos. that would make this game allot more chalengeing.

He's just pining for the fiords. :dork:

Why does everyone think it would be so hard to kill a strider? To me it seems to be a biomechanical creature...just think of it...It's essentially a tripod creature, maybe if you could disable one of the legs it would be like a sentry gun, it falls over and is defenseless..

Maybe because we saw a dozen or more rockets hit it one, along with hundreds of bullets? ;)

ok, I haven't read the entire thread, but I do remember valve stating there are differnet sizes of striders. They probably killed a small or pre-damaged strider.

Yeah, Striders only have two legs...

Maybe it was already damaged, so it just tokk some few extra shotts to kill it.

The strider feinged his death and when the player turned away he stabbed the player with his foot.

th strider was hungry and found a dead scientist on the ground...so it got down to eat. before it could get up again gabe came in and said "okok now lets go on to the next demo pls!!" ^^

WTF, Is the strider now dead? Tell me he isn't..oh well, It has an angry uncle somewhere there..waiting..angry.
