Gaming And DirectX 10 ( Article )

Thanks.

Can I ask, will any GPU support DX10 that are out now?

Sounds amasing. UT 2007 looks next-gen (and looks like PS3/360 stuff). But it's only DX9. So that means after DX10 is released, PCs wilol totally dominate consoles? Neat.

Nope, wait later this year for Nvidia G80 and ATI R600

EDIT :
Info About NV50/G80

- "Increasing flexibility of the programmability, enabling the artists to express themselves in a free way."
- "Our next generation product will just take [effects] to a brand new level"
- "Our next generation product is the combination of 3 years of heavy-duty work. We started architecting it about 4 years ago, and, you know, my best calculations have this investing $250M into it already, and by the time it launches as well as the entire product family, we will have invested about $500M in R&D."
- "It is a spectacular computing machine and, uhm, we can't wait to show it to you later this year".
- "And this year, along with Vista, is going to introduce a very important new API, it's called DX10"
- "And DX10 is just a giant leap forward in unifying the way people program graphics. Instead of, you know,"
"vertices, and shaders and textures, it's unified in a very elegant way. And it's unified in a way that
"makes it possible for us to abstract [GPU] programming to the next level."
- "Our DX10 [part] is nearly finished now, and uhm, it'll be rolled out this year sometime."
- "And, uhm, if I have my way, our next generation GPU will be the first DX10 GPU in the world."

no

they won't be out for awhile either

Besides that, MS are streamlining GPU production, to make it so that there're far less difference in different GPU vendors, that means that game devs can spend far less time optimizing for DIFFERENT GPUs, and far more on specific ones, bringing PCs one step closer to consoles in terms of optimization levels.

Anyway, great article, read it earlier.
This is the reason I'm waiting to replace my 3 year old comp til DX10 is out.

Will DX10 cards need some fancy new mobos or can I stick with my current one?

By the time DX10 cards come out, your mobo will be way out-dated anyway.

so....how many shops and stores do i have to rob to afford this?

Can't wait to get my hands on two G80 nvidia DX10 cards......

weeeee

When we asked Tim when he thought we would see the first true DX10 games, ones that will take full advantage of DX10 hardware, he could only reply with a smile and a cryptic, "When will Windows Vista ship?"

possibly means UT07 can have a DX10 feature.....

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I DON'T WANT TO UPGRADE!!!

I pray that this won't be as big a difference as DX8.3 to 9.0.

This is a HUGE leap! I cant ****ingt wait. 2006 was truly the biggest year in TECH/Gaming

So many games are coming out, DX10, Vista, Xbox 360, PS3. HOLY SHIT LOVE!!!!!! OMG YES!!!!

Nice article btw and omg once agaiN!!!!

Wow, talk about next gen then. Will save my money just for those DX10 cards now, can't be assed with anything else.

Since all GPU's will be essentially the same in terms of architecture, you're not going to be paying as much later on for more power. Which is a good thing!

Gargan, I'm going to wait aswell now that I've heard there will be others who would rather play Oblivion on low detail until Dx10 arrives xD

Or they're just talking about Crysis which has been announced as the "official" DX10 launch game, first game to have DX10 and fully show it off..:p
But whatever!<3

LOL its Gorgon, and yeah I have two 7800GTX with FX60... I don't have any problems running any game with DX9.0+ --> There is a new info about the G80

over here: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/03/17/nvidia_talks_g80/
I was actually shortening Gargantou's name :p. We both have 3 year old computers, but since he's waiting to upgrade, then I might aswell too. I mean I'm not well off, and Dx10 seems like it will last for AGES with great power even on oldish dx10 cards.

I'll be upgrading to Windows Vista no doubt, but won't be upgrading to DX10 cards for quite a while. I'll just stick to DX9L for a while, still with a slight boost in preformance.

PhysiX is the first new addition to my comp I think

Man PhysiX and the new SPU's like that are really going to just perpetuate Microsoft's and dev's troubles. I mean they're going to have to code for both non-PhysiX and other SPU's. Specially if the game relies on physics puzzles.
