Until recently, I've been boycotting Garrry's mod because of the screenshot whores invading various forums, but now that I've downloaded it, I have to say it can be very useful for beginners like me when it comes to proportion.

Remember these guys?

I never figured out how to get them to do what I want, but after a half hour playing around with the ragdolls, I could get my characters in any relaistic shapes I needed. All I need was my sketchbook and I got the skeleton down.

So give it a try, I highly recommend it.

PS: please don't pose your screenshots of Alyx getting backdoor action here, there are many other threads for that.

<3

Hehe arent those guys for painting etc ? ive seen few of em in my art class few years ago.

that's not a bad idea.. :) I have one of those mannequin dealies too, it was useless tbh. Actually, he's on my shelf holding a couple lanyards, so he's not entirely useless.. :P

Eh, I just got auto-banned from the garry's mod forums for saying "rofl" in a post. Now I have to create a new acount. Learn from me, don't say rofl on that forum, the auto-ban is insane.

Garry sees himself as a commie leader ... or hitler. Don't expect any mercy on them boards.

I'd advise you to get the program Poser, it is highly detailed and you can use different models like women, men, children and skeletons. Get books on proportions and anatomy, check out www.fineart.sk as well. It takes alot of hard work to learn correct proportions but it's worth it.

Haha, thanks for the bush lady in the fineart link.

You see, I'm 15, and poser is way beyond my budget. Half life 2 is not. I got a book or two on anatomy, I was just sayin' Garry's mod is a cheap alternative to proffesional programs like Poser, or a better alternative to a wooden manikin.

Considering that it's extremely hard to get the poses looking natural in Garry's mod...

I'm not sure it would be that usefull.

It would be alot better to just learn how to do proportions. It's really not that hard.

I used to use those manequins for clay sculpting and ocasionaly wold use them as skeletons and used plaster of paris for the body.

Okay I registered to those forums, activated email, made a new thread intitled "ROFL", and now I can't seem to access the entire forum anymore. Huzzah!! :smoking:

EDIT: LOL!!
