Ok at the time I bought my new PC whitch was a while ago. Not too long ago. Anyway I didn't know about this whole thing with the FX cards not supporting directx 9 very well on Half Life 2. So I ended up buying a PCI Express Asus motherboard and an Asus GeForce PCX™ 5950. I didn't know about any of this so I thought it was a good Idea. Anyway I want to know if any of you think the PCI-Express will help my card with directX 9. The Mixed mode might end up being the best though... huhhh... I had very limited choices for PCI and I didn't have the 500-600 bucks Canadian for the Higher PCI cards ;( . Anyway let me know what u think.

What are your other computer specs? Your video card is not bad you probably will get good fps in DirectX 9 but im not sure because they only benched the card in direct x 8.1 and it was getting 132 fps so i think you'll be alright.

and Welcome to the Forums. :D

PCI-E has so many bugs and flaws, you shouldn't have purchased a PCI-E system mate.

5 points for making him feel better, lol

PCI-E does have its bugs and flaws, but as Asus will probably tell you they will improve it in time, and it will surpass AGP as the future for graphics card slots

My other specs? Well I have a bit over a gig or Ram,
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz
My GeForce PXC 5900 128 mb
Asus P5GD1 Motherboard and thats about all I can think of to tell yah. Need anything else? I basically have everything perfectly fine x-cept for the worries about my Card and directX 9

Plus PCI-Express may have flaws. But eventually it'll be much better and surpas APG by a long shot. So I prepared for the future.

another 5 moral points

the fx xant play dx9 for their lifes, so no nice looking hl2 for u

No, PCI-Express won't "help" your FX card. For now that's just the slot it needs rather than AGP.

CS:S looks great in DX7 mode, and much better in DX8.1 and I imagine that we can expect a patch enabling the FX cards to use DX9.

That would be cool. Very nice. But if not Eh, I'll buy a new card later and play the game again. Beisdes there is not that much diffrence for the screens I have seen. Anyone know about the Mix mode that Valve made? Thats not DirectX 8.1 is it? The mix mode should look pretty good since it uses parts of DirectX 9.

And yes the FX cards can. Atleast mine. I have been playing some games that Require DX 9 with no problems. Flawless.

Well you see the FX card does not lack DX9 performance in general but Shader performance specifically, which most modern DX9 games use more and more heavily.

I don't believe they run mixed mode but rather strait DX8.1. A year ago Valve had mixed mode but I believe they dropped it. I don't have a link for that though.

Boooo that sucks.... Mixed mode would be so much better. Huh Oh well. But U can force the FX to run DX 9 right? I might as well try it when I get the game. Also, would Over CLocking do anything for the shaders? I'm not sure but its worth an ask. Oh well in the end I'll be able to play it and it'll still look very good.

I don't know. I have never read anything on how overclocking affects pixel shading performance. I do know that overclocking will affect vertex shading and general fill rate performance.

If I were to take a guess, you would have to overclock fairly substantially to make up for pixel shading disadvantages.

Hmm Ok so its a bit of an advantage maybe. So anyone know how to over clock? Anyone know of a website that can gimi a hand with overclocking a PCI-E fx card? I guess I'll look around on google. Hmm i need to buy some more fans for My Raid Max Cobra case to keep the card really cool. I'm glad it has room for so many ^.^
