No that's not how it has to go. Just follow her to find the house, load before the contest starts and bolt in before her. That's what I did anyway. Of course, this plan relies on you being faster than her.

Kill wolfs in the forest and random crap (raid caves if you find any!). Once you get a higher level, join the Arena and work up. Although it gets hard quickly.

I'm stuck in the main story **spoilers below**

**I warned you**

I just got the 4th book from the Deadra dudes in the sewers, and I've read all 4 and all I've found is something about green emperor and a tower that touches the sky or something, I went into the Imperial Palace but saw no way to the inside without having to bypass very hard locks or kill a guard for a key. What do I do?

In Morrowind you could see the dmg your weapon can deal. Now you can't do that. Is it the value under the sword icon in the inventory I'm looking for then? The higher the value, the better the weapon (higher dmg)?

The third column in the TAB menu tells you the damage your weapon can deal.

***More Spoilers***

The lady reptile person can translate it for you if your feeling lazy but basically at 12:00 (noon) a map appears in the big imperial graveyard on one of the buildings doors.

Oh, and one more thing. Do the spells I use "level up"? Or do they stay the same, and the only way I can use a better spell is to buy (learn) it? I mean spells as my skills of course, not scrolls.

Do you sneak better when wearing those silly robes and hoods that the assassins have? Because sneaking around in my heavy armour doesn't seem to work very well.

Probably, heavy armour is noisy as hell.

In fact going Naked is a fairly good way of doing it :o

I'm a Breton (50% Resistance to all magic + 100 Magic Points) with the The Atronach (50% Absorbance of all Magic + 150 Magic Points). Just remember that the Atonach gets these amazing bonuses, but you cannot regenerate magic by sleeping or resting (you can go to church and prey to get it back). That's why it is paramount that you have good alchemy skills so you can brew your own restore magika potions.

Basically, I am level 15 and uberpowerful. I just went into a room with 5 mages and just stood there, enjoying seeing them casting spells on me. I absorbed most of them, and the others that hit did almost no damage. In addition, I have armour that reflects 25% of magical damage, so the ones that hit hurt them too. The mages that summoned monsters I killed with my superior blade skills (never be a pure mage).

With this setup, the beginning game is really hard as no monster are powerful enough to cast magic so you'll be forced to either have a lot of potions or constantly go back to the church to regenerate your magic. But once you reach level 7 or 8, the monsters suddenly appear that cast magic and the game gets infinatly easier.

One you get conjuration up to 75 (make sure you make this one of your major skills), you can summon powerful allies and the blade skill becomes kinda useless, especially if you have good shield (Alteration) and Damage spells (Destruction). BE sure to get mysticism (once it reaches a high level you can start charming items); combine charming with light armor and you have a weak character that has better defenses than most armor oriented characters. Skip Speechcraft and take Illusion instead. You can make everybody still like you and get other spells which speechcraft does not give you.

The biggest weakness of this is that your fetigue and health will be quite low for a while (once you can start enchanting, you get bump them up significantly). So make sure that you have at least one long range destruction spell and fortify fatigue spell. With your conjuration, you can summon sweetass shields, if you are really desperate.

I think I've stated 8 major skills. If so skip restoration early on (your alchemy still should be enough to brew millions of restore health and you can still sleep) and then you can start buying training to incraese it.

Have fun.

^^ Cool thanks, what materials do I need to make restore magic potions though?

You need mortal and pestele (one item) and three other items to make potions. You can get them for free once you join the mages guild (just take them off the shelf, it does not seem to constiture stealing for some reason) or buy them. You only need morta and pestle to make potions, but if you have the other three items your potion get better. You also need ingredients which you can find in the world or buy. Each ingredient has four properties (how many you see depends on your alchemy skills) and you need to match two with the same property to make the potion. A good stretegy is to go to a merchent (your guild is the best) and buy all his ingredients, make potions, and then sell them back, making a nice profit. Early on in the game, you'll find it hard to find ingredients to restore your magic, but once you are around level 5, monsters will apear who once dead give you ingredients that restore magic.

Instead of blade skills, would be it better if I went Blunt? It'd be more fitting if I used Staffs ... which I think are blunt?

See, the funny thing is that staffs have a lot of magika in them, but they do not have an attack rating. Therefore, attacking with them is like using spells. Blunt constitutes axes and hammers, both of which are quite heavy and as your strength will not be too high, you'll have trouble carrying them. But its up to you. I always had a weak spot for swords :D.

And just remember that pure mages make Oblivion a thinking game. You'll always lose if you just charge into a fight. Try to see how many enemies there are. Brenton's have a powerful shield spell that they can cast once a day, so if you have 2 or three enemies in a room, cast it, then cast a creature in front of you, then get their attention by throwing fireballs at them. Hopefully they'll get distracted by your creature and you can practice your blade/axe/hammer skills.

Your alchemy skills will also allow you to create poisons that you can put on your weapon. I can currently create a poison that takes away 6 health points for 18 seconds (total of 108 health points). I put it on my sword, hit the enemy once, and then just jump around until he simply dies.

As you can have many strategies, half the fun is in finding them and seeing how well they work.

Interesting, so what skill (if any?) get's improved by using Staffs?

I don't know, I usually sell them right away cause they give me so much money. I actually never used them, as I saw that their attack rating is zero and the ones I found so far had crappy magic to get (burded, reduce speed). Look through the oblivion forum (http://www.forumplanet.com/planetelderscrolls/) to double check my statement.

I looked through and didn't find anything about Staffs...oh well.

Is there a page or FAQ that lists the Racial bonus / drawbacks?

Awesome thanks!

Does the spell 'Bound [item]' have any drawbacks on the item itself?

Is it possible to steal stuff from vendors? I'm a nordic monk under the shadow birth sign...I turned on moonshadow, picked it up and started walking and the vendor said "put that back you worthless theif"...how did he see me with moonshadow on?

Is there any way to get 'good' at stealing stuff?

I'm not used to such an open ended game!

Bound items are usually super powerful, but they are there only for a short time (30s for lower levels). For example, bound dagger will give you a very strong dagger for about 30 seconds. Later on in the game, you can create your own spells, so you can increase that spell to minute or 2 (will cost you more MP of course)

I play as a mage. I have to tell you that my staff is amazingly powerful. I originally avoided using them. I've found that they definitely have their place though. I use a short sword most of the time, but if there is ever an enemy that gives me trouble, a couple of shots from the staff puts them in place very quickly.

I'm a level 6 right now. I use the staff you get after the second quest in the Arcane University I think. My staff puts 40 or 45 damage of electricity on target each time I click the mouse, with no use of magicka. Very nice. It's very expensive though to recharge if you can't do it yourself.

Once I get my mysticism up to 25 then I'll be able to trap my own souls and recharge my staff by myself. At that point I might be using it much more often.

Where is Garden of Dareloth? I'm trying to get guilded with the dark brotherhood but I can't find it in the waterfront...

Isn't that for the Thieves' Guild? Its outside the city wall by the shacks where all the beggars live. Good luck!

I don't think so. I killed that lady in Bruma to get the gold, got a visit in my sleep and the note says "comes to the garden of dareloth at midnight". I still can't find it.

I've got a save 30 mins before midnight. I've been everwhere possible in the waterfront and still can't find anybody.

In morrowind you could put sneak on and just leave it until it went up, i'm just curious if you can still do this in oblivion because i want to join the dark brotherhood and my sneak is p*ss poor so i thought i'd "cheat" cos' they sound cool.

cheers

Not sure if this will work, but find a dark corner, go into sneak mode and press Q (by default setting this will cause your character to move forward). Go to school/work and come back. Tell us if it worked. Make sure you face into the corner so your character doesn't go wondering off.
