I've been having some fun with the quest "Paranoia", where Glarthir of Skingrad tells you to help him spy on people he thinks are spying on him.

The first person, I actually thought he was serious, and that i'd get to do some fun sneaking around and shit.

Anyway, I follow the lady around town for a bit, Speachcraft with her in Church to get some info on Glarthir out of her, and she claims that he's a nutjob.

Then she goes out to the wine yards and starts harvesting, and harvesting, and harvesting, and...

This got old, so I just stared adventuring around and raided a few camps.

Reported back to Glarthir and told him that she was spying on him, just so I could get the cash :D

The I sped time up 12 hours and told him again, that this dude was spying on him, just to get some cash.

Now i'm on the last guy, who happens to be the vineyard owner, and don't know what to do.

I don't want to rat him out to Glarthir, because I don't want to make a bad name for myself in Oblivion, but at the same time, I don't want to just leave that psycho waiting for me behind the church, and not show up, and end up having to worry about that loony trying to stab me, and missing out on the phat lewt :)

So I tried to get him arrested, but the guards said there was nothing they could do atm.

So, what should I do? Risk getting caught for Slander, or just leave the bastard and not show up at the next meeting.

I'd kill him, but you know, the whole psychic guard thing...

If you tell Glarthir the last guy is following him, he asks you to kill him and gives you a note. You can either do what Glarthir says and get 1000 gold, or show the guards the note and then they arrest him.

Hmm...

Would killing this lad adversely effect my game in anyway?

I'm trying to play the "do goody rich mother****er by day, sneaky slip through trees uber acrobatic ninja steel everything in sight badass by night".

If the guards got pissed, then that would kinda ruin it for me. I don't have all that much cash to pay off a bounty, and I have a TON of stolen goods on my persons.

So that doesn't seem like too keen an option.

Do I get some sort of reward for turning him in, or just the praise of the town?

The third option is you can tell him you won't kill the guy, which makes him freak out. He'll then proceed to kill the people you said were spying on him, but you can kill him when he enters their house (before he kills them though, obviously) and you won't be fined or anything.

this mission was really cool, at the end i just said they weren't spying on him and he tried to kill me so i had to kill him, i reloaded a previous save too just to see how it would play out, i got the orders to kill the Surelli brother or watever hes called but told a guard, a guard ran up to Glarthir and just killed him in the street, i was like wtf? i thought they would just arrest him :p

you should check out Glarthirs basement too, lotsa notes on his table

I followed everybody and told him the truth everytime "They aren't spying on you"

Until the 3rd time he said he thought "they" had gotten to me too! So he pulled out his weapon to attack me. I wasn't sure about the reprocussions of bounty for killing him so instead I just ran towards a group of guards with him following me and the guards beat his ass down until he died in an awkward position trapped between two large stones.

I just snuck up on him when he wanted to meet me behind the chapel and gutted him with Umbra, saved me time and money plus I had a black soul gem so I capped his soul. Quest complete I say.

He has tons of books in his house.

Lol, he has five copies of Mysticism stacked on top of each other by his chair.

Bleh, think i'll just tell him that dudes spying on him, get the cash, and then allert the guards.

Thanks :D

EDIT: Which reminds me, is there anything on his persons that I should be looking for? Cash, books, weaponry?

I intend to loot every single mother****ing inch of this game. Can't leave glarthir behind :D

Let the guards kill him, get his key and then have fun. He has a few books that might be worth selling to a fence, since you'll get at least a few hundred.

By the way, has anyone tried sneaking in his house while he's still alive? I haven't , but I am curious what he would do, being the freak he is.

i did, he just stared at me and told me to get out, i then pickpocketed him and he caught me telling me sumit like ''oh just keep it, the ways things are going i dont need it anymore'' lolz:p

I tried to, but the lock was too tough for me :(

Too low level.

EDIT: Ok, I have a plan.

As soon as Garthir is killed, i'm going to loot his body, take the key, bust into his house, and pretty much live there. I'll just empty everything on my char, steal everything in the house, and try to fence it off (as soon as I join the theives guild).

Anybody know if, after that (after i've cleared the house) it will be safe to drop items around the house? I don't want it to end up just being a free bed, but I also don't want to lose any cool stuff.

I don't know about drops. But don't put stuff in the containers, I'm pretty sure they reset.

Lol, he's got a pretty sweet place.

Just today, I got caught pickpocketing and accidentally saved after it, so I had a bounty on my save.

Unlucky me, the cops wouldn't leave me alone while I tried to get to the thieves guild initiation meeting, so I couldn't join and bribe off my bounty with a thief.

So I just teleported to Skingrad, snuck around the city to Garthirs place, and dropped all of my stolen goods on my persons. ALL of them.

Then I just turned myself in so that they would leave me alone on my way to the meeting.

Went back to the house and picked all my stuff back up from the huge pile of stolen goods.

AFAIK you can't just move into a dead character's house, because the game still considers it 'trespassing' and you wont be able to sleep there. Dropping items there should be fine though.

About glarthir's quest - does anyone know what happens if you sneak into his house when he's not there and read his notes in the basement before he dies?

I would have imagined that you'd get an option to warn the guard and have him arrested using the notes as proof, but noone seems to have mentioned doing it that way. It would be silly if that wasn't coded as a possible outcome.

I'd hope it was because the guard captain, someone anyway, says you should report him if he asks you to do anything wieird...

I don't think there's any way to do the quest without Glarthir dying. Even if you say you won't help him at the start.

It lets me sleep in his bed just fine.

Opening stuff is still stealing, but the bed is all clear.

Besides, it's MINE now, who will catch me?

And even if you get to take the notes, why would you want to. It's a waste. You COULD just lie to him for the cash, and then let him give you the note.

Fun quest though :D

Well here is what I did. ***SPOILERS*** I went through the trouble of following all three suspects around all day and say absolutely nothing! So I told Glarther that each and every person wasn't doing anything. Then he accused me of being part of the "conspiracy", attacked me, so I killed him. I was happy, cuz I wanted so bad to kill him even before.

What you could have done, is, as formentioned, just told him they were all spying, gotten the Ph4t L3Wt, and then told him you couldn't kill the people, then kill him before he could kill anybody himself.

IIRC he still pays you even if you say they're not following him, apart from the last guy.
