Gman's Story

I just had a wild idea that could explain who gman is and where he came from. First of all i do not believe he is gordon from the future. there is no evidence to support this ideas at all and it would be too much of a cop-out ending from valve to be done so. OK: my idea....

I believe that gman is either an alien or a simple human being...the catch? i reckon that gman comes from another universe or an alternate universe, soething like a trans-dimensional being ala (startek enetrprise's temporal cold war aliens from the other universe). I have two theories: 1: He is a human just like gordon from an alternate universe where the same events that have played out in gordons wolrd have happened in gmans world. That is why gman knows everything is going to happen and may be the reason why he does not intercede( his averting this timeline and universe could cause a paradox throughout the universe and cause its actuall destruction) that is why gman was searching for potentials that could help him provide assitance to the humans from gordons world. It seemed like gman knew that BM was going to be attacked(probably because it was his doing) he brought gordon back to the time the combine are in power so that he could be his instrument against the combine, again the gman interferes but never personally, always using outside influences to protect the stability of the universe and balance of time. The combine forces may have found a way to travel to this new universe without causing a paradox, and gman is here to see that their plans fail.

2nd theory: similar to first but gman is a humanoid alien who discovers what the combine are trying to do and helps the humans defeat the combine's plans for trans-dimensional conquest.

nuwhat do you guys think, i just thought about that a couple of hours ago thinking about the stories behind star trek: enterprise, 1984, Equilibrium, THX1138

I've got no idea what they're talking about, but I like your theory.

I always thought the gman was an alien from a universal - or even multi-universal organisation. He has been assigned to inhibit the combine's conquest through time and space. But he is only one being, so he must influence others to ensure the combine's downfall. Maybe he was at Black Mesa in the first place to stop the experiment from ever going ahead? Once the vortigaunts were free from enslavement, they seemed to join up with him as well. I think he pops up here and there using inter-dimensional travel, or something like that, so he can check on your progress, like when you can see him talking to Cubbage on the highway level. I'm thinking the G-man's employed by some all benifiting alien race that has taken it upon themselves to ensure the general best for all, sorta like the ones in 2001 and 2010: a space odessy. He most likely isn't human, as per his unusual gestures and difficulty with our language.

Whoever or whatever he is, valve is probably not gonna tell, just to keep us guessing 'till the end - which for HL, I hope there never is.

Yeah i like your idea Rennmniscant, always reminds me of the Temporal Cold war in Enterprise, only thisis an Interdimensional Cold War, both sidesare fighting for the other dimension, one of those factions (Combine) is fighting to conrtol many dimensions, the other faction (Gmans employers???) are trying to regain equilibrium with the exisitng dimensions and universes, keeping the peace, that would be awesome, and in HL3, this cold war escalates to full dimeniosn, intergalactic WAR, soemthing bigger than what we saw in HL2(is that possible? with VAlve?...OFCOURSE)
